  • A massive tree fell on a group during an Easter egg hunt in Germany, killing three people.
  • The victims include a 21-year-old mother, her 10-month-old daughter, and a 16-year-old girl.
  • High winds triggered the collapse of the 100-foot tree while approximately 50 people were gathered.

The victims were part of a residential facility group for new mothers and children located near Satrupholm. Emergency responders attempted to treat the victims at the scene, but two passed away immediately from their injuries.

The infant girl was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries later that day. An 18-year-old woman remains in serious condition after being airlifted for emergency medical treatment.

The facility involved provides state-funded support for pregnant women and mothers requiring assistance. Local weather services had issued high wind warnings for the region prior to the gathering.

Regional officials expressed their deep sorrow following the incident that occurred during the traditional holiday celebration. Grief counselors have been deployed to assist survivors and witnesses who were present during the collapse.

“Our thoughts are with the family members of the dead, with the injured, and with everyone who had to experience this terrible occurrence,” regional Governor Daniel Günther, Interior Minister Magdalena Finke, and Youth and Families Minister Aminata Touré said in a joint statement.

Authorities confirmed that nearly 50 people were in the wooded area when the tree pinned four individuals beneath it. Photos from the site showed scattered Easter eggs remaining at the scene of the tragedy.
