Clear Facts

  • Dr. Abdul El-Sayed declined to disavow Hasan Piker, calling the backlash a gotcha game and cancel culture.
  • Piker has faced criticism for comments saying America deserved 9/11 and for downplaying Hamas atrocities.
  • The ADL Michigan Regional Director warned that campaigning with Piker normalizes extreme anti-Zionism in mainstream politics.

Michigan Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed refused to distance himself from streamer Hasan Piker during recent campaign events.

El-Sayed instead compared the controversy to the debate over appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

Piker has faced intense criticism for past statements claiming America deserved the September 11 terrorist attacks.

He also came under fire for downplaying atrocities committed by Hamas during the October 7 massacre in Israel.

El-Sayed argued that engaging with Piker is necessary to reach younger voters.

He said the strategy is similar to how candidates use unconventional platforms like The Joe Rogan Experience.

“I’m not here to disavow people’s views.”

“I’m here to have a conversation about how to get money out of politics, put money back in pockets, and pass Medicare for all.”

The candidate suggested that critics are engaged in platform policing.

He also said he would still appear on Rogan’s show despite their disagreements.

Mainstream Democrats remain divided over legitimizing Piker.

They fear his radical anti-American and antisemitic reputation gives opponents political ammunition.

Every MI DEM politician should be asked what they think about Piker ON CAMERA. They know what he stands for so any friendliness towards him is a de-facto endorsement.
