Several shootings across the U.S. over weekend’s Independence Day celebration [Video]

July 4 is typically celebrated with fireworks, but the latest celebration over the weekend was stained with a different one.

According to reports, a series of shootings across the country have resulted in no less than 150 individuals injured and the death of almost two-dozen this weekend. The numbers also included the 67 gunfire victims in Chicago.

On Sunday, Chicago Sun-Times reported that police counted at least 13 people died in different shooting incidences in the Second City. The grim incident includes the killing of a 7-year-old girl who joined a Fourth of July party in Chicago’s Austin community and a 14-year-old boy on another shooting case.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot posted on Twitter his displeasure, saying that another young casualty has joined the statistics of teeners and children whose lives were taken away by gun violence.

Chicago’s gun violence toll surpassed the number of cases in New York, where police reported that almost 30 people suffered gunshot wounds,  and two people were murdered during the holiday weekend.

In general, several gun violence incidences were also reported in different cities all over the U.S. the last weekend. WSB-TV said that authorities recounted 14 people were wounded, and two are on a critical condition in Atlanta both on Saturday and early Sunday.

WOIO-TV reported that seven individuals got shot with another one knifed in Cleveland.

The Advocate, meanwhile, reported that two people were murdered, and six got injured in three unconnected firings in Baton Rouge.

Smaller cities also encountered gun violence over the weekend.

KPTM-TV reported that Police in Omaha, Nebraska said eight people got hurt in six different shootings. WREG-TV also said there were no less than seven gun firing incidences in Memphis, Tennessee, at only within 24 hours.

During a hip-hop concert on Sunday morning at a club in Greenville, South Carolina, two people were killed, and at least eight were injured.

The South Carolina incident was the record high in a single event last weekend.

Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis remarked that investigators are yet to determine whether there are multiple shooters or it was another series of retaliation shootings.
