WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • A Florida fifth-grade student was arrested on Saturday for allegedly making written threats to carry out a mass shooting.
  • The 10-year-old boy is a student at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, Florida.
  • A video shared by authorities shows the handcuffed boy being led into a police vehicle.

A 10-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday and charged with threatening to carry out a mass shooting in his school, police said. The boy is a fifth-grade student at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, Florida.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that it had received a tip earlier that day of a “threatening text message” sent by a student at the school.

According to authorities, the school’s threat enforcement team was immediately notified of the threat and started the investigation. The sheriff’s office said the boy was interviewed and charged later with “making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting.”

The police later shared a video showing the boy, handcuffed, being led into a police cruiser Saturday evening.

“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement, referring to the deadly mass shooting at Robb Elementary School on May 24 that killed 22 people, including 19 children.

“Right now is not the time to act like a little delinquent. It’s not funny,” Marceno said. “This child made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing real consequences.”

“We will have law and order in our schools! My team didn’t hesitate one second…NOT ONE SECOND, to investigate this threat,” the sheriff said.

Marceno made that remark as Uvalde police faced mounting backlash over their delayed response to the Robb school shooting. It was revealed that authorities waited about an hour for backup instead of immediately breaching the classrooms where the shootings happened.

In an interview with W Radio in Colombia, Marceno said, “While I understand the boy is 10 years old, his brain’s not fully developed, he’s a juvenile, I have to tell you: When a 10-year-old presses a trigger, the aftermath is the same regardless of the age.”

Parents need to be held accountable here. It is a parents duty to teach children respect, right and wrong behavior and how to be a responsible person. Social media is working against you, this administration is working against you also. So much shit is out there to mess with young minds, parents need to be parents and teach them how to love and respect each other. Not be a bully, not be so consumed by the race, hate and gender that this administration keeps pushing at all of us. Treat others as you would have them treat you. STEP UP PARENTS AND DO RIGHT BY YOUR CHILDREN
Follow that song: TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL

While I agree with your premise, it is not always a parents fault. Some kids find a stronger pull from peers. They may not be mentally well, but hiding it as ‘a quiet kid’. Parents certainly need to be good parents, but not all parents even qualify on that score. Perhaps the kid is bullied at school and hides his hurt deep. No easy answer.

The authorities will slap his hand, and release him back to his family who will do nothing. When he finally blows, his parents will say he was a good boy.

Children that crave attention that they don’t get at home sometimes will do absolutely anything to put a spotlight on themselves by doing terrible things like this. The word famous appeals to them so much that lowering themselves to the “INFAMOUS” category still appeals to ti them enough to do it…
The ROOT OF THE PROBLEM stems from what they’re taught at home.
It’s a parents duty to know where their kids are, who they’re with and what they’re doing. It’s a parents job to know exactly what is under their roof ! Have you ever looked through your kids room? IT’S NOT A TRUST ISSUE IT’S A MORAL OBLIGATION TO THE SAFETY AND WELL BEING OF EVERYBODY IN THE HOME !

Though some parent can be blamed for their children’s actions because of lack of Parenting , I would also like to fault Society. Watching the News, the video game companies , Co vid isolation have created within SOME simple minded kids not only fear but a negative outlook on life to the extent some think sucidal or mass shooting is the message
