WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former President Donald Trump said Monday he won’t return to Twitter even if Elon Musk reversed his ban.
  • Trump, who was banned from Twitter after the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, said he’s “going to stay on Truth.”
  • Elon Musk is buying Twitter for $44 billion.

Former President Trump said Monday that he will not return to Twitter even if Elon Musk reverses his ban.

Trump told FoxNews.com that he would remain on his own platform, Truth Social.

He praised Musk’s move to purchase the platform, saying “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth.”

The Tesla CEO has not mentioned whether he would restore Trump’s account. Trump was permanently suspended from the social media platform after the Jan. 6 US Capitol insurrection.

On Monday, Twitter reached a deal with Musk to buy the social media company for nearly $44 billion in cash.

Trump touted Truth, his own social media network.

“We’re taking in millions of people, and what we’re finding is that the response on Truth is much better than being on Twitter,” Trump told Fox News. “Twitter has bots and fake accounts, and we are doing everything we can.”

Trump added that Twitter “became very boring” when Republicans were suspended or left the platform after he was banned.

He ended by saying, “The bottom line is, no, I am not going back to Twitter.”

Musk’s comments, however, about free speech have triggered speculation that Trump might have his Twitter account reinstated.

The SpaceX founder has openly slammed Twitter’s content moderators for what he calls “censorship” on the platform. Musk has repeatedly sworn to protect free speech.

Earlier on Monday, former Rep. Devin Nunes told Fox News that Trump will not return to Twitter. He said that “he really doesn’t have an interest in going on Twitter.” Nunes is the CEO of Truth Social.
