Uvalde parents call out school board’s inaction [Video]

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District board informed parents that students would not return to Robb Elementary.
- They then went into a closed-door session without addressing concerns over cops’ response to the mass shooting.
- District Police Chief Pete Arredondo has been scrutinized for holding back police response for over an hour during the rampage.
Parents in the Uvalde community called out the school board’s inaction after their first meeting since the May 24 tragedy at Robb Elementary.
On Friday night, the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District board held its first meeting and informed the community that students would never return to the elementary school. But Superintendent Hal Harrell started a closed-door session without addressing concerns about the police response.
Angela Turner, whose niece passed away in the shooting, told CNN, “We want answers to where the security is going to take place. This was all a joke. I’m so disappointed in our school district.”
“These people will not have a job if we stand together and we do not let our kids go here,” Turner added.
District police chief Pete Arredondo was reportedly the one who held police response for over an hour while the gunman was holed up in two classrooms full of kids. The gunman killed 19 kids and two teachers.
Terrified students had to call 911 from inside the school while hiding from the gunman. Cops held back desperate parents who yelled for them to breach the school.
Arredondo was elected to the city council earlier this year and was secretly sworn into office last week after a canceled council meeting.
Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-San Antonio) called for discipline and repercussions “for what many have described as one of the worst law enforcement failures in American history.” Last week, he called for an FBI investigation of the police response.
Castro questioned how police accounts have changed “four or five times now.” He also found it “odd and disturbing that the school board didn’t take any action to at least put the chief on administrative leave while everything is sorted out.”
According to the congressman, the state’s largest police union has implored its members to help with the investigation, but local officials are still not cooperating.
Last week, Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin also requested an independent probe of police from the Department of Justice, which would soon launch said investigation.

I first hold the school responsible allowing this mad man to get thru – start at the top and go thru the entire school and hold each person responsible for whatever charge is levied upon them – the teacher who allowed the door to stay open – the security of the school not having alarms on all doors that are propped open – and so on – maybe it time to do a clean house and sweep out this school from top to bottom – besides the police and law enforcement standing down, more heads need to role

Any time you have any kind of problem if something isn’t working you try something else. The leaders in this country refuse to try anything else. Continuing to say “It won’t work “. Guns don’t kill people do! But you have to have laws that control which people are allowed access to guns. Such as mentally ill, and violent people. How can you determine who they are without background checks? We are so worried about the harm wearing a mask is doing to the kids but we are not very concerned about crazy people entering a school killing innocent kids. Use some common sense!!
