  • Russia could deploy “many times more” Russian weaponry, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned.
  • Zelensky expects “a new wave of this war” targeting the southern and eastern parts of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expects that Russia’s next attacks will include “many times more” weaponry.

The Ukrainian president made his statements during an interview with “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley. The full interview was expected to air on Sunday.

Zelensky, who expects there will be “a new wave of this war,” said, “We don’t know how much Russian weaponry there will be, but we understand there will be many times more than there is now.”

Ukrainian officials have warned that the upcoming battles could be reminiscent of World War II, as Russian forces have shifted their focus toward the southern and eastern parts of Ukraine.

A Russian military convoy has been spotted moving to southern Ukraine through the eastern town of Velykyi Burluk, according to Maxar Technologies’ satellite images.

Citing remarks from Ukraine’s defense intelligence chief, CNN reported that Russian forces have planned to move toward the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

Zelensky said during the interview that Ukraine’s survivability largely depends on U.S. support.

Zelensky stated, “It all depends on how fast we will be helped by the United States. To be honest, whether we will be able to survive depends on this: I have 100% confidence in our people and in our armed forces, but unfortunately I don’t have the confidence that we will be receiving everything we need.”

Ukraine has already received hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of weaponry from the U.S., including anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons systems. Ukrainian officials have pleaded for more heavy weaponry, however, as well as fighter jets.

The U.S. announced another $100 million in additional military aid to Ukraine last week. Its total assistance is now over $1.7 billion since the invasion began in late February.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba had asked NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg for more weapons during a meeting on Thursday.

“Met with Secretary General @jensstoltenberg at NATO HQ in Brussels. I came here today to discuss three most important things: weapons, weapons, and weapons,” Kuleba tweeted. “Ukraine’s urgent needs, the sustainability of supplies, and long-term solutions which will help Ukraine to prevail.”
