Australian Beachgoer Refuses to Acknowledge Royal Couple’s Publicity Stunt

Clear Facts
- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance at Bondi Beach during their four-day Australian tour
- One sunbather became a viral sensation for completely ignoring the royal couple and their entourage as they walked past
- The trip drew criticism as a “faux royal tour” with taxpayers reportedly covering security costs despite claims of private funding
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s latest attempt at relevance hit an unexpected snag when one Australian sunbather demonstrated exactly what many Americans have been thinking for years.
During a surprise visit to Bondi Beach last week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex drew their usual crowd of cameras and onlookers. But one beachgoer stole the show by doing absolutely nothing — she stayed on her towel, soaking up the sun, completely unbothered by the spectacle unfolding around her.
Social media users celebrated the woman’s indifference.
“Absolute queen at Bondi Beach sunbathing, she couldn’t be bothered to even look up as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry walked right past her,” one user noted on social media.
“And yes, they were with their entire entourage, lifeguards, cameras, and fans. She stayed flat on her towel like they were invisible. Meghan wanted to be treated like a normal person. Well… mission accomplished.”
The Bondi Beach appearance marked the final day of the couple’s four-day tour of Australia. Their itinerary included a visit to Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital — originally opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1963 — meetings with veterans, and a panel discussion for a youth mental health organization.
But the trip wasn’t without controversy. Critics blasted the visit as a “faux royal tour” designed to rehabilitate what some experts have called their increasingly “toxic brand.”
Public complaints emerged about the added security costs for police agencies as the couple visited Melbourne and Canberra before concluding in Sydney. Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper described the latest visit as a “faux royal tour to shore up Brand Sussex.”
The security costs are particularly galling given the couple’s insistence that the trip was privately funded. Australian taxpayers were left footing the bill for police protection while Harry and Meghan portrayed themselves as independent philanthropists.
A spokesperson for the couple rejected the claim that the visit was a publicity tour.
“The program is rooted in long-standing areas of work for the Duke and the Duchess, with a clear focus on amplifying organizations delivering measurable impact,” their office said.
“The visit prioritizes listening, learning and supporting communities rather than promotion.”
The statement noted that their agenda includes “a small number of private engagements” to “support broader charitable and commercial objectives.”
Translation: They’re mixing charity appearances with business deals, all while claiming they just want privacy and normalcy. The sunbather at Bondi Beach gave them exactly what they claim to want — and the internet loved every second of it.
