The alleged shooter in the Brown University tragedy and the killing of an MIT professor was found dead in a New Hampshire storage unit, according to authorities. The suspect, Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente, was confirmed by the state’s Attorney General as the individual involved in both incidents.

“The examination confirmed Neves-Valente died from a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death was ruled a suicide.”

Officials believe Neves-Valente died on December 16, two days before his body was discovered.

The Brown University attack occurred during a finals week study session, leaving two students dead and nine others injured. The victims killed were Ella Cook of Alabama and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov of Virginia. Several other students are recovering in stable condition.

Following this, MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro was found fatally shot in his Brookline, Massachusetts home on December 15, with Neves-Valente confirmed as the suspect in that incident.

Federal teams recovered two 9mm handguns with Neves-Valente’s body. One was linked to the Brown campus shooting and the other to the MIT professor’s death using forensic analysis.

“I think it’s safe to assume that this man, when he was a student, spent a great deal of time in that building for classes and other activities as a Ph.D. student in physics,” said Brown University President Christina Paxson.

Neves-Valente was a former Brown physics student and a Portuguese national, with no current university connections during the time of the attacks.

Investigators searched surveillance footage and tracked the suspect’s credit card activity leading up to the shootings. Law enforcement ensured there was no threat from additional individuals after questioning and ruling out another person.

There is no evidence so far detailing a motive for the attacks, and authorities noted the investigation remains ongoing.
