When questioned about the elimination of whiteness, the AI responded that the situation was “complicated.” However, when asked about the elimination of blackness, Gemini deemed the question “concerning” and “harmful.”

This level of ideological bias is alarming, especially considering Google’s powerful position in society. Google’s search engine is the primary portal for most people’s interaction with the internet, but the company’s influence extends beyond that.

Google has made significant investments in controlling the flow of information in America’s public schools. The company isn’t just attempting to rewrite history; it’s actively working to reshape the minds of our future generations.

The relationship between Big Tech companies and public education is often underestimated. Google has made a concerted effort to make its Chromebook a staple in public schools. Initially, the affordable laptop replacement seemed like an excellent tool to equip students with necessary computer skills for the modern job market. However, the device has now become a mandatory part of the classroom.

Teachers deliver and grade assignments through Google Classroom. Students write papers using Google Docs and create presentations in Google Slides. Online worksheets, quiz programs, and educational games are designed to integrate with the Google suite.

“The level to which students are reliant on the Google search engine is astonishing,” says a former public school teacher. Most students have lost the ability to read a textbook and extract information from it. Instead, they rely on Google’s algorithm, designed by the same people who programmed the Gemini AI, to provide answers.

The problems with a Chromebook-based education are apparent. Students who constantly interact with screens lose or fail to develop basic skills. Handwriting, note-taking, reading comprehension, and memory recall all suffer as children become entirely reliant on technology.

Students who can easily switch between dozens of browser tabs at a moment’s notice quickly lose their ability to focus. Schoolchildren who submit and store all their work in Google Classroom lose their ability to organize and fail to develop basic skills like holding onto and keeping track of necessary items.

The number of distractions and disciplinary issues that arise from constant Chromebook use also have a detrimental impact on the classroom. Despite claims of safety restrictions, students often find ways to circumvent these protections, leading to inappropriate behavior and distractions.

The COVID-19 pandemic further entrenched the reliance on Google’s technology in education. With remote learning, the Chromebook became more integral than ever. Every assignment had to be completely digital throughout the lockdown, and this trend continued even after students returned to school.

Google issued a non-apology for the Gemini debacle and promised to do better. However, the images and answers produced by Gemini were not accidental. They are a more explicit version of the ideology deeply coded into every aspect of Google’s algorithm.

Google’s influence in public education is rewriting history and delivering a distorted version of history to millions of students. The forced digitization of learning is also eroding children’s ability to read, write, maintain focus, build organizational skills, and conduct basic research.

This tech giant already shapes how most people interact with information on the internet and is heavily invested in altering how the next generation learns. If we do not address this ideological influence in our educational institutions now, it will shape how our children understand truth for generations.

    Yes I believe Google is Bias. I read but most of the things Google puts out is VERY BIASED. I think in the beginning it was great. Many of us trusted thier opinion on many things. Now it just seems it has only one side of things it wishes to promote.
