On Sunday, the death count related to coronavirus worldwide went over 500,000, with over 25% of all casualties recorded in the United States, Johns Hopkins University said on their latest study.

The university further noted that the U.S. remained on the top in both numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths, with 2.5 million infected and over 125,000 mortalities.

The state of New York holds the record in the highest number of deaths in the U.S., exceeding 31,000. Next to New York were New Jersey recording over 14,000,  Massachusetts with no less than 8,000, Illinois at 6,800, and Pennsylvania at the latest with more than 6,600.

At one point, Italy was the epicenter of the pandemic in Europe, and on Saturday, it recorded the first lowest number of daily COVID-19 deaths in almost four months at 8.

China, meanwhile, said the country has no new casualties on Sunday, closing at over 4,600 deaths out of more than 84,700 confirmed coronavirus cases.

Experts worldwide have cast doubt on the accuracy of figures, saying it may not reflect the actual number due to inadequate testing capabilities. Health authorities also repeatedly questioned the methods of reporting in several countries, China included.
