Jury Finds Routh Guilty in Trump Assassination Plot
Clear Facts
- Ryan Routh was found guilty on all charges after attempting to assassinate Donald Trump last September.
- After the verdict, Routh tried to harm himself with a pen before being restrained by U.S. Marshals.
- Prosecutors presented evidence linking Routh to a rifle, reconnaissance trips, and a manifesto offering payment for Trump’s murder.
Jurors reached a verdict in Ryan Routh’s trial after hours of deliberation. The charges against him included attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate and multiple firearms offenses.
Routh attempted to stab himself in the neck with a pen after hearing the verdict, but he was quickly restrained by Federal Marshals.
Sara Routh, his daughter, reacted emotionally in the courtroom, saying:
“Don’t do anything. I will get you out. What the f—, f—, he didn’t hurt anybody. This is not fair. This is all rigged – you guys are a–holes.”
Routh’s prosecution focused on digital records and forensic evidence showing his intent and preparation to kill Donald Trump at the West Palm Beach golf club.
Prosecutors highlighted Routh’s 17 surveillance trips to Trump’s golf course and the recovery of a SKS semi-automatic rifle near the crime scene.
Forensic experts matched Routh’s fingerprints and DNA to the rifle and related items. Bank records tied him to the weapon purchase.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Browne told the jury:
“This was not a publicity stunt. The evidence has shown one thing and one thing only — the defendant wanted Donald Trump dead.”
Prosecutors also introduced part of a manifesto in which Routh allegedly offered money to have Trump killed. Surveillance evidence placed him at the location, and witnesses testified about his preparations.
Routh represented himself at trial but failed to introduce admissible evidence. The charges carry a potential life sentence.

It’s a good thing that this guy wasn’t on trial in NYC, because he probably would have received at least 6 months of house arrest if found guilty! LOL
