Late Night Hosts Go Dark on Swalwell Scandal

Clear Facts
- Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert have not addressed Eric Swalwell’s resignation on their shows for seven consecutive days
- Former Democrat Congressman Eric Swalwell resigned amid serious allegations
- The late-night hosts have historically covered political scandals extensively when involving Republicans
In a striking display of selective coverage, liberal late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert have maintained complete silence on the resignation of former California Democrat Representative Eric Swalwell. More than a week has passed since the disgraced congressman stepped down amid serious allegations, yet America’s most prominent late-night comedians have avoided the story entirely.
The silence stands in stark contrast to the hosts’ typical approach to political scandal coverage. Both Kimmel and Colbert have built their shows around relentless political commentary, particularly when controversies involve conservative figures or Republican officials.
Swalwell’s resignation represents one of the most significant political developments in recent weeks. The former Intelligence Committee member had been a vocal presence in Democratic politics and a frequent media commentator before allegations surfaced that led to his departure from Congress.
The apparent media blackout from Hollywood’s late-night lineup raises questions about editorial priorities and partisan coverage standards. Critics have long argued that mainstream entertainment outlets apply different scrutiny levels depending on the political affiliation of those involved in controversies.
Neither ABC, which airs Jimmy Kimmel Live, nor CBS, home to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, have explained the absence of coverage. The networks’ entertainment divisions typically claim editorial independence while maintaining news judgment that aligns with progressive political perspectives.
The week-long silence becomes more notable given both hosts’ track records of immediate response to Republican controversies. Past political scandals involving conservative lawmakers have generated multiple segments, opening monologues, and recurring jokes across numerous episodes.
Media analysts suggest the selective approach reflects broader patterns in entertainment industry coverage, where progressive figures receive more favorable treatment or protective silence when facing serious allegations. The pattern has contributed to growing public distrust of mainstream media institutions.
As the story continues to develop, the continued silence from prominent media figures highlights the divide between professional journalism standards and politically motivated entertainment programming masquerading as news commentary.

At the very least, you’d think these hosts would compare how swiftly Congressional Democrats acted against Swalweii with the longstanding, ugly silence and inaction of their Republican colleagues respecting the extremely serious sexual abuse allegations against Republican congressman Tony Gonzales. Indeed, one of Gonzalez’ victims committed suicide. But Speaker Johnson will try to protect his majority no matter the cost in his party’s moral standing.

Why are these late night hosts still referred to as comedians ? I don’t find anything funny about them at all ! They are a pathetic lot of garbage and are totally worthless !

Kimmel, Colbert and pretty much Every Single Democrat Politician Should Get their Citizenship Revoked and Booted to a Communist Country Where They Would Be Happy and at Home. They Hate EVERYTHING That Made America What it Is Today and They Should Either Be Kicked Out.
