Minnesota Audit Shocks as Billions Lost

Clear Facts

  • The U.S. Treasury estimates $9 billion in Minnesota taxpayer dollars have been stolen through fraud during Governor Tim Walz’s tenure.
  • State and federal officials found that millions of these funds were sent overseas, including to Somalia, where some reportedly reached terrorist groups like Al-Shabaab.
  • Programs such as Feeding Our Future, Housing Stability Services, fake autism centers, and empty daycares were all targets of fraud, leading to criminal charges, program shutdowns, and Congressional hearings.

Governor Tim Walz’s decision to end his re-election campaign came after widespread fraud allegations and mounting evidence of taxpayer money being funneled out of Minnesota.

Federal investigations uncovered that funds intended for welfare programs and COVID-era aid were manipulated and stolen, with significant sums routed abroad and into criminal hands.

“That is the estimated amount of taxpayer dollars stolen via fraud schemes in Minnesota under Governor Tim Walz’s watch.”

The Feeding Our Future scandal alone saw $250 million stolen from funds meant to feed children, making it the largest COVID-19 fraud in the country, with 78 people charged and most defendants being Somalis.

One Minneapolis grocer was charged with taking $1 million that was used for personal expenses.

The Housing Stability Services Program spent $100 million by 2024, far beyond its original estimates, and was ultimately discontinued due to rampant fraud.

Eight defendants have been indicted in connection with this program.

Fake autism centers, some run by Somali individuals, resulted in $14 million in stolen funds and exaggerated diagnoses among Somali children, with Medicaid claims for autism treatments ballooning from $3 million in 2018 to $400 million in 2023.

Approximately 85 autism clinics remain under investigation, highlighting a massive increase in fraudulent activity.

Daycare fraud included a center that received $4 million in taxpayer money, despite obvious operational and compliance problems, remaining largely empty of actual children.

“The fraud has been so brazen and widespread, it’s impossible the Walz administration didn’t notice, including his lieutenant governor and attorney general.”

Minnesota Republicans, along with federal officials, repeatedly called out the fraud, but say their alerts were dismissed by Democrat leaders and the Biden administration.

The Small Business Administration banned known fraudsters from participating in its programs, while federal childcare funding for Minnesota has been frozen.

Congressional oversight is ramping up, with hearings and proposed legislation aimed at denaturalization and deportation of those involved in the schemes.

“Let me be clear: Tim Walz dropping out of the Minnesota governor’s race does not exempt him or members of his administration from accountability.”

There is strong conservative momentum, led by figures like President Trump and Congressman Tom Emmer, to restore integrity and prevent future abuse.

Minnesotans are demanding greater oversight and assurance that taxpayer resources are fully protected.
