Tragedy unfolded at Kentucky State University on Tuesday when a deadly shooting occurred inside Young Hall dormitory. One victim has died and another is fighting for their life, with police arriving promptly and detaining a suspect whose identity has not been released.
“We will share more information as available,” Democratic Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear wrote in a social media statement. “Law enforcement are on scene, and a suspect has been arrested. Let’s pray for all those affected.”
The campus remains under strict lockdown as authorities work to secure the area and gather more information. Reports from university officials confirmed several people suffered injuries in the attack.
This event comes just two weeks after an Afghan migrant opened fire on two National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C. Previously, two separate shootings shocked other historically Black universities in October.
At Howard University, a shooting left five people wounded, while an attack at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania resulted in one fatality and six additional injuries during its homecoming weekend.
Law enforcement is pressing forward with their investigation to ensure the safety of the campus and community.
