Clear Facts

  • President Trump warned Minnesota Democrats he may invoke the Insurrection Act if violence against federal law enforcement persists.
  • Recent unrest in Minneapolis included rioters attacking ICE agents and looting federal vehicles.
  • State and local Democratic leaders have opposed the increased federal presence and called for ICE agents to leave Minnesota.

President Donald Trump announced Thursday he would resort to the Insurrection Act if Minnesota officials fail to stop violent protests targeting federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

His statement followed several days of disorder in Minneapolis, where mobs reportedly looted federal vehicles and interfered with law enforcement operations.

“If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT, which many Presidents have done before me, and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State.”

“Thank you for [your] attention to this matter!”

Days of unrest were triggered by a deadly shooting incident in which a protester allegedly attempted to drive over an ICE agent, prompting a defensive response from the agent.

The incident has escalated debates over federal enforcement, with Democrats in the state intensifying their opposition to ICE activities.

The president has the legal right under the Insurrection Act of 1807 to deploy the military to deal with unrest or rebellion within the United States.

Past presidents, including George H.W. Bush in 1992 and Dwight Eisenhower in 1957, have used the act in moments of domestic disorder.

This is not the first time President Trump has considered invoking this authority; officials from his first term revealed he weighed it in 2019 regarding illegal immigration issues.

Recent footage showed rioters destroying ICE vehicles and stealing equipment.

In response to federal action, Minnesota’s Democrat leadership, supported by officials from Minneapolis and St. Paul, filed legal challenges aiming to drive ICE out of the state.

Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have demanded the removal of federal agents from Minnesota.

This is not a states’ rights issue. They need to go back to school. Certain areas of governance have been left up to the federal government. Immigration is one of those. Individuals or even states do not have the right to challenge that. If they don’t like it, they can always move to another country.

I think any of the democrats that are participating in any kind of illegal activities towards ICE should be doing jail time. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

We need to ask two questions, Why is ICE there and why are Americans fighting FOR illegal immigrants? The American protesters need to stay at home and no one gets hurt, common sense.

It is time for the INSURRECTION ACT
It is time for TW and JF to get the fuck out of my city and not the ICE agents who do their job in upholding the law of the land
It is time for the taxpayers thieves to be expatriate and it is time to pay attention who is allowed in this country.
