Clear Facts

  • Iran plans to execute 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, marking the first execution linked to recent anti-regime protests.
  • Soltani was arrested in Karaj and sentenced to death without access to legal counsel or a public trial.
  • At least 648 protesters have reportedly been killed and more than 10,000 arrested since December 2025.

Iran is preparing to execute Erfan Soltani this week, reportedly in connection with the recent anti-regime protests.

Authorities detained Soltani near his home, leaving his family in the dark for several days before confirming his arrest and death sentence.

A source close to Soltani’s family stated that officials claimed there was no case file available for review, and the sentence was described as final with no possibility for appeal.

Soltani’s sister, a licensed attorney, was reportedly denied access to his case documents.

The Norway-based Hengaw Organisation for Human Rights called the judicial process “rapid and opaque.”

Iran Human Rights confirmed that Soltani was denied access to a lawyer and did not receive a trial.

“The widespread killing of civilian protesters in recent days by the Islamic Republic is reminiscent of the regime’s crimes in the 1980s, which have been recognized as crimes against humanity,” said Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, director of Iran Human Rights.

Authorities have imposed a near-total internet blackout and ramped up executions to suppress dissent.

President Donald Trump warned Iran that violence against demonstrators could trigger a military response.

“[They] better not start shooting, because we’ll start shooting, too,” Trump said Friday.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated the president prioritizes diplomacy but is willing to consider military options.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed these warnings, asserting Tehran is “fully prepared for war.”
