  • Zelenskyy said that whichever political party is in charge doesn’t matter since the aid that the US provides come from taxes paid by the people.
  • Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to President Biden and the political parties that support Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that it doesn’t matter which political party is in power when asked if a US administration under former President Donald Trump would have prevented the Russian invasion.

Zelenskyy made the remarks during an interview in Ukrainian capital Kyiv with Newsmax host Rob Schmitt.

Schmitt asked Zelenskyy if he thinks that different leadership in America and the West “may have prevented this aggression.” He added, “There are many Americans that believe that if somebody like Donald Trump was still in the White House that this invasion would not have happened. What is your position?”

Zelenskyy replied that regardless of which political party is in power, it is the “people of the United States” who “are paying the taxes” that go toward the aid provided to his country.

“So I am grateful to the current president of the United States as well as to those in the political parties that support us,” he continued.

Zelenskyy added, “I am sorry if I’ll be saying something that you don’t like, but for us as the country in war, it doesn’t matter whether it’s Democrats or Republicans. It’s the people of the United States that support us.”

He explained that he doesn’t know and “cannot predict” what would have happened “if Donald Trump would be the president of the United States for this situation.”

Zelenskyy stressed the importance of government institutions working under the same “values” regardless of who is in power.

Newsmax has been known as a right-wing outlet that supports Trump.

Trump had previously remarked that the “deadly Ukraine situation would never have happened” if he were still president.

US support for Ukraine was the subject of Trump’s first impeachment.

Trump was impeached by Congress over a phone call he had with Zelenskyy in 2019. Trump had urged the Ukrainian president to investigate Biden and his son Hunter Biden, seemingly in exchange for military aid.

While I seriously doubt Putin would have done this if Trump were in power, sooner or later Putin was going to invade once Trump was gone. Putin is a madman…even his own people know that.
