WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • The conservative straw poll picked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (FL.) with the highest approval at 74 percent, followed by former President Donald Trump at 71 percent.
  • The poll was conducted over the weekend at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver.
  • Fox News host Tucker Carlson said that he won’t be seeking political office in 2024.

In a recent conservative poll, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL.) got the highest approval, narrowly defeating former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis earned over 74 percent approval, followed by Trump at 71 percent. The Florida governor, though, noted that he would not seek higher office in 2024. Meanwhile, Trump previously said that if he will seek re-election, he would approve DeSantis as his vice president.

“Sure I would … I would certainly consider Ron,” Trump told Fox Business early this month.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX.) garnered 43 percent approval, making him in third place, followed shortly by former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with 39 percent and Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) at 36 percent.

Other notable candidates like Donald Trump Jr. finished at 9th place with 24 percent, and former Vice President Mike Pence with 21 percent, making him at 10th place.

Other Democrat candidates were also included in the list. Former first lady Michelle Obama and Sen. Elizabteh Warren (D-MA.) were tied at almost three percent. President Joe Biden received two percent, while Vice President Kamala Harris and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) both earned less than two percent approval.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg (D) ended the list with less than 1 percent support.

On other news, Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson, who has the most watched cable news show in the US, told the “Ruthless” podcast that he had no interest in running for the White House.

“Oh, God, come on!” Carlson said on Friday. “That seems like a fun job. I’m sure my poor children would love that. Can you imagine? I’ve known and talked to every president, you know, for a while, for like more than 30 years. And you know, I can’t think of anyone whose life was improved by that.”
