Cruz Demands Crackdown on Protest Funders After Kirk Killing

Senator Ted Cruz is calling out organizations and individuals accused of funding disruptive and violent protests at memorials for Charlie Kirk, as well as anti-ICE and anti-Israel demonstrations. He has introduced a bill enabling the Department of Justice to use RICO statutes against those financially supporting violent activism.
“I urge the FBI and the Department of Justice to do is follow the money,” Cruz told Fox News Digital. “This violence, we’re saying, the assassination of Charlie Kirk was horrific.”
“It was a politically motivated assassination.”
Cruz tied recent political violence to earlier riots by groups like Black Lives Matter and antifa, and to antisemitic demonstrations on college campuses. Since the assassination, authorities have arrested several students and protesters for disrupting vigils and events honoring Kirk.
He is advancing the STOP FUNDERs Act to address violent activities, including anti-ICE riots in California and ongoing campus protests targeting Israel since October 2023.
During a Senate Judiciary hearing, Cruz asked FBI Director Kash Patel about the bill, questioning whether expanding RICO to cover rioting would assist federal efforts. Patel agreed with Cruz’s direction.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and former President Donald Trump have also condemned those providing resources and organization for extremist demonstrations.
“They have organized drop points for weapons, organized drop points for gas masks, organized drop points for all the materials necessary to launch a riot,” Miller told reporters. “I think the key point the president has been making is somebody is paying for all of this. This is not happening for free.”
Cruz has been firm in condemning Kirk’s assassination and supports the maximum legal penalty for the suspect. “The death penalty is absolutely merited.”
“I am glad they’re seeking the death penalty,” Cruz added. “The very worst crimes deserve the ultimate punishment.”
