The incident began when Mary Kay Cabot, a Cleveland Browns reporter, predicted that Deshaun Watson would enter training camp as the No. 1 quarterback on the team’s depth chart over Shedeur Sanders, who was selected by Cleveland in the NFL Draft. Shilo Sanders, who briefly appeared on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ roster last season before being released, took issue with the prediction.

The elder Sanders explained that his son’s reaction stemmed from defending his brother, acknowledging the changing landscape of athlete-media relations.

Shilo Sanders later elaborated on his criticism during a livestream, clarifying that his issue centered on what he perceived as opinion masquerading as reporting.

“If you’re gonna be a reporter, then report facts,” he said. “Whenever you have your opinion, and your opinion is always something hateful to Shedeur, then it seems like there’s something weird.

Like there’s an agenda you have going on.”
