Wrestling Champion Athena Eyes Historic Seven-Year Title Reign

Clear Facts
- Athena successfully defended her Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship in a six-way Survival of the Fittest match at Supercard of Honor
- She has now held the championship for over 1,253 days, surpassing Roman Reigns’ recent championship run
- Athena’s stated goal is to surpass Bruno Sammartino’s legendary 2,803-day championship reign
One of professional wrestling’s most dominant champions continued her historic reign Friday night at Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor, showcasing the kind of determination and grit that has defined American championship excellence for generations.
Athena defended her Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship against five challengers in a brutal Survival of the Fittest match. The competition included Billie Starkz, Maya World, Trish Adora, Yuka Sakazaki and Zayda Steel in a no-holds-barred contest that saw chairs, ladders and tables come into play throughout the night.
While the champion eliminated Steel early, the remaining competitors pushed Athena to her absolute limits. At one point, Adora delivered a devastating chokeslam through stacked chairs. Sakazaki executed an impressive springboard Magical Girl Splash that sent both wrestlers crashing through a table.
But champions are defined by how they respond to adversity. Athena climbed nearly 10 feet up a ladder and executed a high-risk maneuver called the O-Face onto World, securing the final elimination and retaining her title.
With this victory, Athena has now held the Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship for over 1,253 days, a remarkable achievement that demonstrates consistency and excellence at the highest level of competition.
The champion has set her sights on surpassing one of wrestling’s most legendary records. Bruno Sammartino, an icon who embodied the American dream, held the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship for 2,803 days during the peak of his career.
“Hey man, when we get to Supercard of Honor this week and I beat the epic Roman Reigns’ last championship run, I just want you to know that I’m gonna be so petty,” she told Fightful earlier in the week.
“I want everyone to know that we are gonna have the pettiest celebration ever. We’re gonna have kittens, green apple skittles, whiskey, tequila, you name it. … But we are just gonna have a big smorgasbord of a party. We’re gonna have a cookout. It’s gonna be amazing.”
“But like I said before, my goal is Bruno Sammartino. Seven years, baby, seven years. But you know what, when you’re ‘forever champion,’ what’s years? What’s years? A lot of people think that might be getting ahead of myself. But at the end of the day, I’ve been champion for over—what is it 1,250 days or something like that? I don’t see this anytime soon.”
“Hell, all these girls that are in this match think that they’ve learned something by experiencing Athena, but I’m ever changing, ever evolving. That’s just the way I’ve always been and there’s not gonna be a harder worker than me. As I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, no man can touch my reign, no woman can live up to my legacy. I am the forever Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion. It’s about time y’all get over it.”
The self-proclaimed “Forever Champion” has backed up her bold words with consistent performance. Her work ethic and dedication to excellence reflect traditional American values of hard work and perseverance. Whether she can reach Sammartino’s legendary mark remains to be seen, but her commitment to the goal is undeniable.
