Now, according to CEO Chris Nicholas, the company is reaping the benefits with a 68 percent increase in Gen Z shoppers who value these advanced features.

“That generation believes it’s cool to save money, and we agree with them,” Nicholas expressed.

This begs the question: why are many shoppers shifting their loyalty to Sam’s Club?

Nicholas suggests the answer is rooted in the potency of technology as the convenience of the future, a philosophy that aligns with Sam’s Club’s core values.

He further explained, “That’s not something characteristic of the club model, but it’s something that we provide, and it’s something that’s genuinely resonating with our members.”

Apart from the standard self-checkout kiosks found in many warehouses, Sam’s Club has upped the ante with its Scan & Go app, a feature that allows members to entirely skip checkout lines. Shoppers can scan their items using the app’s barcode feature and finish their purchases digitally, thereby negating the need for the store associate’s involvement.

However, the “Seamless Exit Technology” has been a game-changer for Sam’s Club.

Earlier this year, Sam’s Club implemented an AI machine to revamp the current receipt-checking process. Now, rather than employees manually checking receipts before permitting shoppers to exit, customers can pass through an archway that uses technology to detect items in the shopper’s cart. Once payment is confirmed, shoppers can exit the store without any hassle.

In contrast, other establishments still use the traditional in-person receipt-checking method, which has given Sam’s Club a decisive advantage. The result? Soaring customer satisfaction scores, according to Nicholas.

“It drives engagement. It drives renewal rates. It drives people to recommend us to their friends,” he stated.

This tech-focused shopping experience has sparked conversations on social media platforms, with many users citing the Scan & Go feature as the reason they switched their patronage from other entities to Sam’s Club.

“I do appreciate it and that is actually the reason I prefer Sam’s over others now,” a user conceded.

“I use scan and go consistently and I haven’t used a register in months,” another user declared.

Sam’s Club’s technological innovations have not only transformed the shopping experience but have also served as an effective strategy for attracting the next generation of shoppers, leaving its competitors to play catch-up.

    It’s not just Gen Z’s, I’m 82 yrs old and have been using scan and go since it came out. I also love the fuel app so I don’t have to insert a credit card.

    Why aren’t same clubs getting their stuff stolen by the shoplifting gangs? Seems like it is not fair that Costco gets hit but not Sam Clubs
