Walmart, the retail giant, is currently facing intense scrutiny over its store-brand food line, Great Value. Numerous critics, including a former government official, have accused Walmart of “price gouging” due to an apparent lack of value.

Recently, a shopper alleged that the retailer had price discrepancies, claiming she was overcharged for Great Value butter. Malinda posted a video on TikTok on April 23, displaying her receipt as proof of being overcharged during a shopping trip at Walmart.
“Walmart’s trying to get me again. Look at this,” she can be heard saying at the beginning of the video, demonstrating her receipt.

Her receipt showed a charge of $2.26 for a two-pack of Great Value Butter Salted Sticks bought from a Neighborhood Market store in Overland Park, Kansas. However, she also filmed the same product on a store shelf, visibly priced at merely $1.97.

The video quickly garnered over 1.7 million views, and a look into the comment section suggests that Malinda may not be the only customer who has experienced such pricing discrepancies.
“Walmart always does those things! They need to be sued,” one user commented.

Currently, Walmart is dealing with a class action lawsuit concerning supposed price discrepancies for weighted goods, with affected shoppers potentially eligible for refunds of up to $500. Another TikTok user corroborated Malinda’s claim, mentioning they had a similar issue with eggs a week before.
“I’m gonna start taking pictures in the aisles to compare and prove it to them at the register,” they wrote.

However, some shoppers are skeptical that Walmart is intentionally overcharging customers for profit, as Malinda suggests.
“Ok, grocery store worker here. Sometimes prices change and there aren’t enough staff to get all the tags changed,” a user clarified in the comments on the viral TikTok post.

Attempts were made to reach out to Walmart for a comment on Malinda’s overcharging claims, but there has been no response as of yet. This situation highlights the need for consumers to be vigilant about prices during their shopping outings to prevent potential overcharges.

    I suspect this is more like the statement at the end of the article. Prices are changing and computers are not being updated. While customers need to be alert at the registers, if not using a self checkout station, it can be nearly impossible to keep up with what you are being charged.

      Well, I guess you haven’t been reading newspapers or online recently since it’s been stated that Walmart and other companies are doing away with self check-out stations because of people walking out of stores with items not paid for or the issue of businesses losing money because people aren’t being honest when doing self check-out. It is impossible to keep up with what is being charged unless you go over your receipt before leaving the store which is a lot of times not easy to do. Take it easy. Great response otherwise.
