A late-night disturbance in Clovis, New Mexico, near the west Texas border, resulted in an armed homeowner defending his property and safety against an intruder. The Rosa Boulevard resident had called 911 around 11 p.m. on Dec. 4, reporting a potential break-in.

As the police were en route, the homeowner called 911 again. This time, he reported that the intruder had forced his way into the home. The homeowner stated he had shot the intruder, according to the police.

The intruder was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a medical facility in Lubbock, Texas. His condition was reported as stable but critical.

Clovis police detectives are investigating the incident. They learned that the homeowner had been awakened by the intruder banging on his front door. The homeowner, not recognizing the individual on his porch, told him through the closed door to leave and informed him that the police had been called.

The homeowner also warned the intruder that he was armed and would shoot if the intruder entered the residence. Despite the warning, the intruder kicked open the front door and entered the home.

Fearing for his safety and the safety of others in the home, the homeowner fired a single round at the intruder, who then fell to the ground. The homeowner called 911 again, stating that he had shot the intruder and requested an ambulance.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this incident to contact the Clovis Police Department at 575-769-1921. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via the tip411 program at www.police.cityofclovis.org or by calling Curry County Crime Stoppers at 575-763-7000.

Clear Thoughts (op-ed)

In a world that seems to increasingly disrespect the sanctity of private property, a New Mexico homeowner’s actions remind us of the necessity of the Second Amendment.

The homeowner was forced to defend his home and potentially his life when an intruder ignored his warnings and kicked open his door. Despite the clear threat, the homeowner only fired once, exemplifying the principle of responsible gun ownership.

This is not a tale of violence, but of self-defense. It’s a testament to the importance of individual rights and the ability to protect oneself and property.

The homeowner’s actions underscore the crucial role of the Second Amendment in preserving our freedom and safety in an unpredictable world.

Sadly the intruder may live to become a burden on all Texas taxpayers. If there is a Democrap in charge of the area they will side with the SCUM who broke in and was shot. Personally anyone who defends the Scum should share his fate namely a bullet to gut and leave them to die a slow death better than what they deserve and better than what the homeowner would have been dealt had he not been armed.

I have to disagree with you, Jesse. Everyone is entitled to a trial, the presumption of innocence until proven guilty and the right to a defence attorney. These are granted by our Constitution along with the right to bear arms. We cannot have one without the others. Defence attorneys should not be considered guilty along with the people they defend because in some cases, they don’t have a choice not to defend a person having been assigned that duty by the courts.

We have not heard the intruder’s side of the story. But if the homeowners story is true, the intruder was lucky to be alive. Multiple shots from a handgun or a single blast from a shotgun using buckshot could have ended him. These situations of self defense by gun owners happen about 2 million times per year, mostly with no shots fired. Democrats never take these in to account when they argue to minimize or end gun ownership. Illinois will end sales of semi-automatic weapons completely beginning Jan. 1, 2024. The bad guys will still have them, good people will not and will thus be outgunned even worse than they are now. Democrats don’t care and will continue to think they are doing the right thing even as more victims die.

I was taught you shoot until the threat is no longer a threat. One shot the perp can still draw his weapon and shoot you if he has one and in more cases than not they always do. Defend your life, property and your family because if you don’t who is going to. By the time the police get there it can be already too late

News flash. The intruder made his intentions very clear by kicking the door in. What, you want a Q&A session while he’s attacking someone? Get some common sense if you can. Duh.

Is there anyone who feels that the homeowner did anything wrong?
This man defended himself and his family AND disabled the intruder from hurting any other law abiding citizens. The criminal element in society will rob and kill with no conscience. They will get what they deserve.

Thank goodness to the 2nd admendment right to protect oneselfs and family against the crooks. Yet our democratic leaders want to strip us of our right to protect oneslf from criminals who don’t care about law.

Good for the homeowner. You could all have been killed.

A few years ago someone knocked at our door and I did not recognize the vehicle. My son comes out with his shot gun ready to shoot. Luckily it was his dad in a company truck.

“Call the police if you have any information on this.” Yeah, right. The police have the 911 call logs, the intruder and all the facts, but they need HELP? I call that INCOMPETENCE.

Hopefully there is no socialist democrat district attorney in that county. If there is a fair DA there in which case ithe shooting will be ruled justifiable, and it will also send a message to other punks that kicking in someone’s door will get you shot. It’s time we the people take our security in our own hands, police do the best they can but when you call 911 the threat is there and the police are 10 minutes away and they are about 9 minutes to late, someone is already hurt or dead.

Always do a double tap when shooting intruders. You don’t want them to testify against you or become a burden to the taxpayers for their stupidity!!!

I do not have the knowledge or ability to handle a gun, but if I did, I would have done the same thing, if my nerves and mind allowed me to.

Notice the difference when a regular citizen shoots someone and a police officer shoots someone. The citizen shoots someone, and usually they shoot between 1 and 3 times, and the threat is stopped. A police officer, supposedly trained for such an incident, empties his magazine, up to 18/19 shots. The perp is either “killed” multiple times, or is hit a few times and the rest are sheer misses.
2 examples: 1. A news article on msn about a police officer that fired 18 shots at the alleged threat (alleged as the case is still under investigation) and hit him 7 times, killing him. 2. A case from Tulsa Oklahoma earlier this year. Man with a knife, no shirt, jeans. 5 Officers, guns drawn. Man throws his only knife, doesn’t even make it halfway to the police position. All but one open fire. The head cop is heard yelling cease fire, cease fire, and taps the one seen on dash cam to stop him shooting. This same videoed officer has already emptied his magazine, and is in the process of reloading when the lead officer taps him to shut him down. Perp is dead with empty hands, no mention of how many rounds actually hit the man. Just my take on the differences. Your mileage may vary.

What more do the cops expect to learn from this case, it’s iretty dimple snd clear.
With Over 5 million illegals in this country with no jobs homes etc. soon they will be robbing homes in small gangs where police can’t get go in a short time. Lock and load because the police can’t do it all. Leave no doubt that if somebody breaks into your house, they don’t walk out. Too many unknowns!

The intruder has no story worth telling. I would have shot the perp in the foot that was used to kick in the door and then if he tried to get up and do anything else, shoot him in the head to allow the ignorance to escape

Good thing this didn’t happen in new York, otherwise the homeowner would be put on trial for attempted murder. There is no right to protect your life, family or property in blue states
