Pfizer recalls 3 blood pressure drugs amid cancer risk concerns

- Pfizer announced Monday the voluntary recall of drugs that treat high blood pressure.
- Included in the recall are some lots of Accuretic and two lots of generic drugs distributed by Greenstone.
- The recall was issued due to unacceptable amounts of nitrosamines in the drugs which when consumed in a long term can up the risk for cancer.
Pfizer on Monday announced the recall of a high blood pressure drug distributed under three names.
The recall named Accuretic as well as two generic versions (quinapril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets and quinapril HCl/hydrochlorothiazide tablets) distributed by Greenstone.
The drugs treat hypertension or high blood pressure, a precursor to cardiovascular diseases and strokes.
The recall was issued because the tablets contain higher levels of nitrosamines. If consumed over long periods of time or in large doses pose a cancer risk.
Pfizer issued a news release saying “there is no immediate risk to patients taking this medication.”
“Nitrosamines are common in water and foods, including cured and grilled meats, dairy products and vegetables. Everyone is exposed to some level of nitrosamines. These impurities may increase the risk of cancer if people are exposed to them above acceptable levels over long periods of time,” Pfizer stated.
Certain chemical reactions occur during the production of medications therefore nitrosamines may be unintentionally introduced.
Pfizer claimed it’s not aware of any reports of adverse effects from patients using the medication. The drugmaker added that the drugs have a safety profile established over more than 20 years.
“Distributors and wholesalers should stop use and distribution and “quarantine the product immediately,” the release added.
Pfizer urged patients who are taking the medication to consult with their doctor first about alternative treatment options.
High blood pressure is a growing problem in the United States A 2021 study found that the number of people over 30 years old with hypertension has doubled over the past 30 years.

Time for big pharmaceutical to pay for their high crimes against humanity. They are murders. No more don’t take shit from any Dr. as they are all part of it.
