WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Influencer, Charlamagne tha God, sat down with Joe Biden on Friday for a tough interview.
- The former VP commented that African Americans are ‘ain’t black’ if they’re still having difficulty in choosing between him and Trump as a presidential candidate.
- Biden immediately did damage control by issuing an apology to black business leaders.
Television personality Charlamagne tha God lambasted Joe Biden, saying the former vice president is part of the institutional-deep racism culture in the U.S after he commented that African Americans who are not politically siding with him are not real black.
On Friday, the radio talk show host told CNN that Biden is one of the leading advocates in the war against drugs and mass confinement, adding that if the Democrat wants the highest post, he needs to deal with the bias.
Earlier that day, Biden guested on Charlamagne’s radio show, “The Breakfast Club,” where the presumptive Democrat presidential nominee commented that if the host was still having difficulty choosing between him and Trump, then he is not a true black.
The African American radio celebrity had guested Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders before, and he was always known to ask the tough questions. On last Friday’s episode, Charlamagne was not impressed with Biden’s answers.
Charlamagne said that while Biden discussed the things he did for the black community before, the African American influencer, with around 2.1 million followers on Twitter, remarked that what’s essential for him is the present.
He added that regardless of who’s sitting on the White House, black people are always being admonished.
A few hours after the interview, the 77-year-old Biden acted quickly to control the damage, sending his apologies to the black business frontrunners through a phone call.
Biden admitted that he had been careless with his answers, and he didn’t mean to take the African American people for granted. He further emphasized that no voter should go for any party that has race and religion bias.
The morning after the interview, President Donald Trump ridiculed his political opponent via Twitter, saying that Biden is not capable of bringing America to greatness, and people like the former vice president is one of the reasons he won.
Trump also taunted Biden by retweeting a Twitter post about the latest poll, which shows the president leading in vote-rich Pennsylvania state.
Charlamagne had advised Biden to have a black woman as his vice president in the race, reminding him that the black community in South Carolina catapulted his major campaign from struggling to thriving.
Biden, meanwhile, has frequently said that black women are always on their priority as running mate. His camp has considered candidates such as Florida Rep. Val Demings, former Georgia lawmaker Stacey Abrams, and California Sen. Kamala Harris.
On Saturday, Charlamagne cautioned Biden against choosing Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, who sources say is the current prime candidate for the VP role. He said the Senator would not be suitable for Biden’s campaign.
