WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former anti-government activist Maria Baronova resigned as managing editor of Russia Today, a state-run media.
  • Baronova called the Putin regime totalitarian over its invasion of Ukraine.
  • Baronova said she thinks “we’re on the brink of a nuclear war right now.”

Maria Baronova quit as a managing editor of Russia Today, a state-run media also known as RT, last week. She condemns Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The former anti-government activist is aware that anyone who speaks out against the Kremlin could be in danger.

“The problem is, I know these people very well. They never send threats, they just kill, so there is kind of [a] weird silence around me, but I really think we’re on the brink of nuclear war right now. I’m not exaggerating,” Baronova told Fox News Digital from Moscow, via a WhatsApp call.

Baronova said she can’t leave Russia because the father of her son “won’t allow me to leave with him, and so I just prefer to stay in Moscow.”

“It seems like we’re either in North Korea or we are going to be killed by a thermonuclear mushroom,” she added.

People worldwide fear that Russia would resort to nuclear weapons, but Baronova is worried that Russia will be the target of a nuclear attack because of Putin’s behavior.

“I suspect the Western world will use it,” Baronova said. “This is a very dangerous situation.”

Baronova agreed to talk to Fox News Digital and explained that the last straw before quitting RT was an Instagram message from her colleague who wrote, “If you are now ashamed of being Russian, don’t worry, you are not Russian,” as Putin’s invasion of Ukraine intensified.

“If I chose to be with Russia, this does not mean that I should walk in a totalitarian system, be silent or, for example, rejoice that the regime, which I do not want for my country, is being exported somewhere else,” Baronova wrote.

She said she hasn’t garnered much support from fellow Russians since leaving RT and is seen as an opposition activist.

Baronova was featured in a 2012 New York Times piece headlined, “A Face of the Russian Protest Movement.” She was charged with inciting a riot that time while protesting Putin winning a third term. In 2014, Rolling Stone said she was “for a short while, one of the most visible protesters in Moscow.”

Baronova started working for RT in 2019, annoying fellow anti-Putin who felt she was abandoning the movement by joining state-run media.

“People felt betrayed when I decided to join RT,” she said. “But I decided on purpose in order to have a reasonable conversation with people who are in power right now in Russia.”

Baronova feels many Russians are “brainwashed” and some even buy Putin’s claim that the attack was needed to help “denazify” Ukraine. Putin has claimed he wants to purge Ukraine of fascism.

Putin has cracked down on non-state news since the invasion of Ukraine began, with social media platforms and independent news operations forced to shut down for refusing to parrot propaganda.

Many believe we’re on the eve of destruction. If we survive this, the world should demand elimination of nuclear weapons AND nuclear energy, both will destroy the human race

It’s not Putin’s right to purge the Ukraine of Fascism, considering there is no Fascism in the Ukraine or Nazis. This is just an excuse for Putin to invade. The real reason for the invasion, Putin doesn’t want the Ukraine joining NATO. He doesn’t want NATO on the Russian doorstep. This is exactly a bunch of bull.
Let’s say for arguments sake Putin seizes all of Ukraine, Ukraine becomes a satellite nation under Russia, becomes part of Russia. Poland is a NATO country that will be on Russia’s doorstep, the argument doesn’t hold. While NATO and the U.S. are stationed in the surrounding NATO countries, they are there to protect those countries, not the Ukraine. The U.S. will make Ukraine the sacrificial lamb. NATO and the U.S. sit on the sidelines while Putin tries to bomb the Ukraine out of existence killing innocent civilians. This should be a lesson learned for Europe, Israel, and Twain, do not expect the U.S. to come to ones aid, especially Israel. Hoe long has Corrupt Quid Pro KING Joe been jerking Israel around on Refueling Tankers? I beg to differ with Baronova, the U.S. and the West won’t be the first to use Nukes against Putin. Lying Corrupt Quid Pro KING joe will be afraid he and the corrupt politicians in DC will be vaporized. If anything, Putin will strike first and will be backed up by Communist China. If Putin strikes first, it will be bad news for Communist China. They destroy the U.S., Communist China will have an abundance of TV’s, Microwaves and laptops, with no one to sell to.

One little man responsible for all this fear, death, and destruction. Funny, no Putin no problem. There has to be one brave soul in all the world to put this sick little man out of his misery. He isn’t all there and capable of anything. Time for action not reaction.
