  • The president teased at another presidential run in 2024 during a White House Christmas party.
  • Several members of the Republican National Committee attended the holiday reception.
  • During the event, Trump also insisted on his unsubstantiated claims of election fraud, despite contradictions from attorney general William Barr.

President Donald Trump hinted at a 2024 presidential run on Tuesday evening when he addressed the crowd at a White House holiday event.

“It’s been an amazing four years. We’re trying to do another four years. Otherwise, I’ll see you in four years,” Trump declared.

The attendees included several members of the Republican National Committee.

Pam Pollard, the national committeewoman for the Oklahoma GOP, streamed the event live on Facebook. The footage showed a large crowd in the Cross Hall of the White House state floor.

Social media posts cited by the Associated Press showcased other similar events, which featured large crowds with most attendees maskless and gathered indoors, despite the continued surge of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. following the Thanksgiving holidays.

At least one suspected COVID-19 superspreader event has taken place in the White House. Dozens tested positive in numerous outbreaks: campaign staffers, aides, allies, the first lady, Trump’s two sons, and the president himself, who was hospitalized for the virus in October.

The first lady’s spokeswoman and chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, insisted that the White House holiday events will continue “while providing the safest environment possible.” She listed a few precautions, such as smaller guest lists, hand sanitizer stations, encouraging social distancing, and requiring and providing masks. She pointed out that “Attending the parties will be a very personal choice.”

The holiday receptions started this week, as the Trump family intends to celebrate a final holiday season in the White House before the president leaves office on Jan. 20.

In the live-streamed video, Trump can be heard insisting on his unsubstantiated claims of election fraud, despite contradictions from attorney general William Barr. Barr told the AP on Tuesday that the Justice Department did not uncover any evidence of widespread voter fraud or any discrepancy that would change the 2020 presidential election results.

Trump stated, “It’s certainly an unusual year. We won an election. But they don’t like that. I call it a rigged election, and I always will.”
