WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • President Trump has thrown a #FireFauci comment over Fauci’s recent remarks on the government’s coronavirus response.
  • Fauci clarified during the CNN interview that implementing earlier measures would have been better, but there are several factors involved.
  • Fauci was one of President Trump’s top officials in fighting the coronavirus crisis.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump expressed his discontent over Dr. Anthony Fauci through social media platform, Twitter.

Trump on Sunday retweeted and quoted a post by DeAnna Lorraine, a Republican who lost against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier in March,  to represent California’s 12th District. The Tweet lashed out on Fauci about his remarks during an interview with CNN, which was about the government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Lorraine wrote that Dr. Fauci has seemingly shifted his stand-in when it comes to the president.

The tweet by Lorraine was with the hashtag #FireFauci, and Trump retweeted to the content in defense of his governance during the health crisis.

However, Fauci clarified during the CNN interview that, while an earlier government action against the pandemic would have resulted in a different outcome, the circumstances were intricate.

CNN host Jake Tapper during his one on one interview with Fauci remarked that the U.S. has come to be the center of the outbreak worldwide. Tapper also noted that South Korea only recorded a fewer number of cases and fatalities when it reported the first few infections at around the same time as the U.S.

When Jake asked Fauci if the U.S started too late in responding with the crisis, the infectious disease expert replied that comparing the coronavirus crisis in the country with South Korea is kind of unfair. Fauci added that considering the size and other factors involved, the situation is more complicated in the U.S.

Fauci further noted that while having a head start is nice, but that is not the only factor.

The Trump administration’s corona task force prominent member, however, did not argue in The New York Times article that said he and other health authorities proposed that social distancing guidelines be implemented early February as a measure to curb the spread of the virus.

The doctor is frequently seen at president Trump’s side during White House coronavirus pressers, and often gets invited in several news and media outlets discussing the health crisis.

Because of his exposure, Fauci was now considered a top official in the battle against COVID-19. And while he was a figure in the public health for decades, working with several past presidents, he is a relatively new face to many citizens of the U.S.

His sobering, straight to facts behavior, was admired by many, but being famous has somehow compromised his security. Since then, several outlets reported that Fauci had a 24-hour security detail to take care of his safety.

Fauci also admitted that he and the president do not agree all the time, but Trump listens to him on several significant matters.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the White House spokesman has not commented yet on Trump’s #FireFauci tweet.
