WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Twitter has suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA.) account for 12 hours starting Sunday, arguing that she repeatedly breached the company’s policy about misinformation.
  • Greene’s recent posts included massive voter fraud in Georgia and describing Georgia election officials as “morons.”
  • Both Democrat and Republican legislators have criticized Greene since the Capitol riot for her wrongdoings.

Twitter barred GOP Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (GA.) account for 12 hours, noting that she has continuously violated the platform’s policy on false information.

According to a company spokesman, Greene’s account “has been temporarily locked out for multiple violations of our civic integrity policy.”

Per Twitter’s civic integrity policy, the company states that it “will label or remove false or misleading information intended to undermine public confidence in an election or other civic process.”

“This includes but is not limited to: disputed claims that could undermine faith in the process itself, such as unverified information about election rigging, ballot tampering, vote tallying, or certification of election results; and misleading claims about the results or outcome of a civic process which calls for or could lead to interference with the implementation of the results of the process,” the policy added.

Greene’s latest posts included erroneous claims about massive voter fraud during Election Day in November and the January 5 Senate runoffs. She also continuously tweeted baseless accusations that were already debunked and described Georgia’s election officials as “morons.”

Greene’s account still exists, though it cannot post for the given time since Sunday.

A neophyte lawmaker, Greene is publicly known as a Trump supporter and a QAnon promoter. Last week, she announced that she will file an impeachment complaint against President-elect Joe Biden a day after his inauguration.

The Georgia congresswoman has also earned the ire of both Democratic and GOP lawmakers since the Capitol siege.

In an op-ed in The Atlantic, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE.) called Greene as “cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.”

Following the Capitol’s siege on January 6, the social platform company beefed up its efforts in suppressing fake and malicious information. Aside from permanently barring President Donald Trump’s account, Twitter has banned thousands of accounts associated with the QAnon conspiracy theory.
