WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Sen. Chris Murphy said in an interview that there are “many more Republicans willing to talk” about gun reform after the Uvalde school shooting.
  • The Democrat senator said more Republicans are interested in talking this time since the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.
  • Murphy added that he thinks Republicans backing some type of gun restrictions doesn’t mean the sky would “fall for you politically.”

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said in an interview that he has seen more Republican senators take an interest in talking about gun reform following the Uvalde elementary school shooting in Texas.

Margaret Brennan asked Murphy during his CBS’s Face the Nation appearance on Sunday whether there are at least 10 Republican senators who would be in favor of some type of gun-related legislation.

“I think we can. I think there’s something dying inside the soul of this country when we refuse to act at a national level shooting after shooting,” Murphy replied.

The Democrat senator is also confident that “there’s an opportunity right now to be able to pass something significant.” He added that he’s seen more Republicans taking interest in talking this time since the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012.

Murphy also said that he thinks Republicans backing some type of gun restrictions doesn’t mean the sky would “fall for you politically.”

“In fact, you probably will get a lot of new additional supporters. So ‘red flag’ laws are on the table. Background checks, expansion and on the table as well as things like safe storage of guns. I think we can get something done, but we don’t have a lot of time,” Murphy added.

Murphy has been a long-time advocate for gun laws since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School ten years ago. He said communities rarely, if ever, recover from such tragedies.

“We need to understand we are putting on top of kids today who already are living in an era of social media and pandemics, a level of trauma and fear that makes it very difficult for them to learn when they are in school,” the senator said.

“It only happens in America. And when a shooting like this happens in a neighborhood or in a school, those communities never, ever recover. That’s just the reality,” he said.

Again, will any of these gun laws they are purposing stop the next mass shooting? Will red flag laws stop anything if a red flag shows up and they are ignored like they were with this Texas shooter. You can put all the gun laws in the world including confiscation on the books and it will do no good if you cant enforce them. Confiscate all guns from law abiding owners and all you will have is criminals with guns.

No i don’t believe anything that comes out of a lying democrats mouth. Whats the plan here to lie about how ten republican senators are talking gun control and when those don’t materialize you can use that in the mid term in tv commercials accusing them of being baby killers hoping to piss off enough people to keep the senate or house? You democrats have no bottom of the barrel including using dead children to stay in power.

Those Republicans that wish to put stricter gun control laws on the books should probably dust off their resumes. I’m quite certain they will not be reelected. Murphy has always been a swamp dweller that would always want guns taken from law abiding citizens. In those states that have citizens without spines he will be considered a hero, but to me he is a zero.
