Clear Facts

  • Global delegates at the UN climate change summit are circulating a letter calling for the US and other Western nations to immediately ban new natural gas infrastructure projects.
  • The letter is led by Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., Lisa Badum, a member of the German Parliament, and Canadian Sen. Rosa Galvez.
  • Climate advocates argue that additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) capacity is not needed and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.

Global delegates attending the annual United Nations climate change summit are circulating a letter calling for the US and other Western nations to immediately ban new natural gas infrastructure projects.

Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., Lisa Badum, a member of the German Parliament who is leading her nation’s delegation at the summit, and Canadian Sen. Rosa Galvez are among the lead architects of the effort.

The letter was sent to other US lawmakers and global representatives ahead of the COP28 climate conference, which kicks off Thursday in Dubai.

The letter states, “At COP26, the United States — along with 39 governments and institutions — signed the Glasgow Statement, pledging to prioritize the clean energy transition and end new direct public support for the international fossil fuel sector by 2022.”

It continues, “Despite this, the United States is hurtling towards a massively harmful expansion of Liquefied Natural Gas infrastructure. Regrettably, there exist similar plans in many other countries — including in Germany, the US, and Canada.”

The letter argues that while liquefied natural gas (LNG) was originally looked to as a means to tackle the consequences of the global energy crisis, additional LNG capacity is “not needed.”

Climate advocates have long opposed LNG and natural gas production since, when burned for power production, it produces greenhouse gas emissions. However, natural gas has widely been looked to as a replacement for coal production since it is a source of reliable power and produces roughly 40% less carbon dioxide.

US carbon emissions have declined nearly 20% since 2005, driven in large part by a transition from coal to natural gas generation in the power sector.

Rep. John Curtis, R-Utah, who chairs the Conservative Climate Caucus and is attending COP28, told Fox News Digital, “The US has led in the production of affordable, reliable, clean energy, in large part due to our vast fossil fuel resources.”

He added, “Republicans need a presence at COP to push back on bad ideas and show how innovation can leave our world more prosperous and better than we found it. The goal at COP should be to reduce global emissions, not energy choices.”

The letter has received the support of additional lawmakers from the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the European Union. It will be published during COP28 as part of the ongoing “Global Parliamentary Inquiry on the Progress of the Fossil Fuel Phase-out.”

On Wednesday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee hosted a hearing about America’s energy and environmental leadership on the world stage. The hearing focused on emissions reductions made possible by greater natural gas production and reliance.

Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., remarked during the hearing, “This Shale Revolution and the affordable and reliable natural gas that American workers are now producing has also enabled America to reduce emissions more than any other nation, and we have the capacity to continue helping countries reduce their emissions even further.”

She added, “We should instead be working to build on our remarkable legacy, which has transformed the human condition, helped lift people out of poverty, and raised the standard of living. The best way to do that is with a strong energy mix that takes advantage of the resources we have here at home, lowers costs for Americans, and prevents us from becoming reliant on China for our energy needs.”

According to federal data, in 2005, coal generated 50% of total US power across the power, industrial, commercial, and residential sectors, while natural gas generated just 19%.

In 2022, by comparison, coal generated less than 20% of the nation’s power and natural gas generated 40%, making it by far the largest power source in the country. Markey and Badum didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Clear Thoughts

As global climate summit kicks off, UN delegates led by Sen. Ed Markey, Lisa Badum, and Sen. Rosa Galvez circulate a petition to shut down US natural gas production.

Despite natural gas being a cleaner alternative to coal, with 40% less carbon dioxide emissions, they argue it’s “not needed.”

However, US carbon emissions have declined nearly 20% since 2005 thanks to the transition from coal to natural gas.

Rep. John Curtis emphasizes that the goal should be reducing emissions, not limiting energy choices.

The push to ban natural gas infrastructure projects is misguided and overlooks the role of natural gas in addressing climate change.

The true goal of the climate change hysteria is not to control global warming, but to control the global population. Clean, reliable, and inexpensive power sources like natural gas, hydro electric, and the new nuclear technology would contribute to lower green house gasses without destabilizing the power grid or the economy so they are disparaged and discouraged. Why do you think they like wind and solar so much?

      True.
What we are being told is the goal, really isn’t their goal.
Destabilizing our economy and making us increasingly dependant on China in order to usher in The One World Order is the true goal.
Wake up! This is what’s REALLY HAPPENING. Take time to investigate the big picture.

A nasa expert testified in front of congress. A on a screen. Showed satellite images of earth.that were of a thermal picture. He stated this: thoses images shown do not support the so called science that’s claimed about warming.it amounts to: 0.0004% so the bs being pushed. Is just that. Yet, they don’t talk about the two countries that are the biggest polluters. India, and China. Is that because China is responsible for putting BRICS together. To get away from the dollar, to destroy America? Its not rocket science people. China wants to take us down, without firing a shot.

There are bigger issues related to environmental issues that no one addresses like population – requiring the use of more and more natural resources yet it’s ignored.

Lets start with the people that are for depopulation. Then once they are eliminated that should give us plenty of CO2 room.

Every single person like Markey. Kerry should have the power to there Homes cut off if they are powered by lng or coal. Then they can be happy.

Did you know that most of these nightmare Oligarch Councils and Organizations all stem from the Wicked Luminauti. Many poopoo the truth because you are theorists, this isnt theory – THIS IS FACT, THIS IS CONSPIRACY’s at work in our government just as Hitler counciled with the Islamic Imams and the Jesuits & Catholic Church . Here’s another fact that this ignorant un educated society that didn’t bother to read our Constitution and Declaration of Independence And the amendments and articles within it, word for word. To actually understand how this current, cabal dictating circus we call a gov. Is violating thoses amendments.and using the Constitution as toilet paper. Fact # 1. D.C. is not part of the U.S. it’s a territory that’s under the veto power of congress. This dates back to the 1800’s. Go look it up. So you have a frd.gov. that is telling us, what to do, that’s not even part of us. Fact#2. We are not a democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic. The word democracy is not even in the Constitution, or the Declaration of Independence. So watch thoses who like to us that. “D” word. Wake the he’ll up people and get self educated. And grow a backbone-common sense, and logic. And start thinking on your own, for God sakes.

I would like to see the US get the hell out of the UN. It has turned into a f#&*ery & a tail dragging mob who do us more harm than good.We need to think for ourselves & our own country instead of being controlled by others who degrade America While destroying their own countries.Unfortunatly these globalists have infiltrated our government & are undermining everything we have built over the years. With this administration running our country into the ground & at the brink of a world war we are a laughing stock to the world and we had better give up such stupid ideas as losing our fosssel fuels because of dimwits like Al Gore & others saying we are destroying the planet,

The UN can go take a hike! I remember back in the 1970s there were signs around to get us out of the UN, and we should have done it then. America is a sovereign country and if you want to keep it free we better stay that way. We don’t want some foreign government telling us how to live what run our lives. Are you kidding me?? That is what the Constitution of the United States is for is to keep us a free country and all the other countries will do is oppress us with their rules and regulation. They’re trying to push this bogus climate change on everyone now and it is just about more control over people.

Strange that a German would say this as they depend on NG for their power production! Remember the Russian gas pipeline that got blown up?! NG is a very clean power-generating fossil fuel. With the achievements in filtration of exhaust gases, the pollution is very small.

UNTIL the UNITED STATES KICKS OUT the united nations & LEAVES IT our COUNTRY WILL KEEP GOING DOWN. They want to DESTROY US & with the help of the LIBTURDS, SOCIALISTS, COMMUNISTS & DEMONRATS who are in our Country they are doing it by INDOCTRINATING our children for the last 30 years in all our public schools & universities

Go figure, the un got bigger fish to fry then to worry about our Gas line. They got 3 wars going on in the world but did nothing to stop any of them. And now their biggest worry is our gas line ??? Tell the un to go f#ck themselfs and worry about the wars going on in the world they swore to protect. If theupir worried about the air,go first to china and Russia and the whole of the Europe who use coal for heat and to run the emir factory cause of the high price for oil and gas. We can lower the cost for the whole world. But then it will hurt them with all the oil and their profits. So the un crys about our gas line. Hell with them, I say

Most members of the UN hate our country. Why should we stop the production of natural gas? We have gas heaters to heat our homes, gas to produce our electrical plants gas to cook our food and so on. Tell the under develped countries to stop cutting and burning trees.. Our country has cut our polutiopn by more than 25%. Who else in the world can make that statement?

If we can’t use coal or gas we have to revert to burning wood. How is that going to reduce emissions? The political leaders in this country still us gas stoves. What makes them think their better then the citizens. Screw them all. Kick the un out of here. Tired of them and their views

Why are we even a member of this America-hating, behemoth monstrosity full of dimwitted bureaucrats with nothing better to do than conjure up ways to give our wealth away. Most members of this obsolete and dangerous organization are not even democracies and we’re allowing them to tell us what kind of energy we’re allowed to use??!!!! The overpopulated countries like India and China produce the most pollution and emissions and do nothing to curb them. But it’s always the evil USA that has to suffer. I’m sick of our corrupt, malevolent, communist politicians and the UN needs to move to China or Russia or better yet, Saudi Arabia. The UN is beyond a joke; it would be amusing if it wasn’t so beloved by democrats and communists, which are not mutually exclusive and so dangerous to the industrialized world. Let’s go ahead and return to the dark ages, the elites that want the peasants to freeze or starve to death can live in modernized caves with all their comforts, their jets stashed away under camo canopies, their Bentleys parked next door. I went to the Elberton Guidestones many times before they were blown up and I still haven’t figured out what the big picture is but I can tell you this; they scared the bejesus out of me.

The UN serves no purpose. Dissolve it ot move their headquarters to another country. And of course, have the USA drop out of the UN. Most of the countries there hate us. Without our money, they would fall apart. Why should we carry the financial burden. Get out of the UN and close down their headquarters. We do not need them.

And China is allowed to build more coal power plants unabated instead of looking at cleaner solutions.
As China builds more plants the US and other countries are being “mandated” to reduce its emissions.
It is well past time that China is mandated to join the climate agenda and lose its developing country status and change them to an industrialized nation.
