WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY.) slammed the House’s failure to act in passing another COVID-19 stimulus package.
  • AOC pleaded to her GOP House colleagues that in order to “get the virus under control,” they need to “pay people to stay home.”
  • The Democrats’ stimulus proposal was declined by the GOP-dominated Senate last month, saying it was too much.

In a tweet on Thursday, Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized the House’s negligence to provide another round of coronavirus stimulus package for the Americans.

“To get the virus under control, we need to pay people to stay home,” the congresswoman wrote on Twitter.

AOC added that GOP legislators were “made at this when they literally just voted to do just this in March.”

“The reason they’re opposed to it now is because last time they got a Wall Street bailout and this time all that’s left is helping working people, the disabled, the poor, etc,” the feisty lawmaker added.

Last March, the house passed the single $1,200 financial assistance amid the country’s shutdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Ocasio-Cortez continued her barrage of tweets, saying: “Funny how you didn’t hear Republicans complain about ‘spending other people’s money’ or ask ‘how are we going to pay for it?!’ when they insisted on creating a $4 trillion leveraged slush fund for their Wall Street buddies in March.”

The HEROES Act was spearheaded by Democrat lawmakers who dominated the House in numbers. The latest bill proposed in October includes $3 trillion financial relief, and another $2.2 trillion package. The Republican-dominated Senate, however, refused to pass both versions, arguing that it was too expensive.

Last month, President Donald Trump turned down House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stimulus proposal, saying that the $2.2 trillion allocations were too much.

In a statement earlier this week, President-elect Joe Biden has pressed the need for another COVID-19 stimulus package to aid the country’s struggling economy.

“We’re going into a very dark winter. Things are going to get much tougher before they get easier.”
