Following the recent COVID-19 cases upsurge in Florida, President Donald Trump agrees on a different set up of  Republican National Convention next month in Jacksonville.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) had discarded plans to the party’s rally on Charlotte, N.C. after Gov. Roy Cooper announced he would only permit gathering with fewer people.

During an interview with a television show with former Fox broadcaster Greta Van Susteren, Trump said the scheme for the event on August 24-27 would depend on the seriousness of the pandemic in Florida.

On Tuesday, the president commented that the campaign is always open for considerations, noting that when it was Jacksonville, they wanted to have it in North Carolina. He added it almost happened, but the governor did not give a green light.

Trump added that when the RNC said it would have a different venue, Florida looked better.

The president confirmed to Van Susteren that it would be the plan, but it will still depend on another factor such as timing. He noted, though, that the campaign is open for possibilities.

Van Susteren’s interview with Trump ran on Gray Television, an Atlanta based network, where he now serves as a chief political reporter.

Trump’s remarks indicated he was being careful in dealing with the health crisis, which already has a death toll of over 130,000 in the U.S. and more than 3 million infected cases. Amongst other states,  Florida recently faced sudden increases in the number of cases.

Numerous well-known Republican representatives have already announced they will not be going at the convention. The list includes Senators Lamar Alexander, Chuck Grassley, Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney, and Susan Collins.

Florida Department of Health says the number of coronavirus cases has increased by 100% in the last four days, from 100,000 cases shooting up to 213,794.

On the weekend, Florida recorded over 10,000 new cases from Saturday and Sunday.

Trump close ally, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, has decided to pull back on their reopening plans, was forced to roll back the state’s reopening plans, reimposing measures such as limiting to only up to 50% capacity of indoor places.

DeSantis did not confirm yet on Tuesday if he would ease down on the restriction because of the convention, which he will allow 7,500 people.

During an interview with the outlet, RealClearPolitics, Trump negated claims that he does not want another term after recent polls continue to show that he is trailing behind presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden.
