Saturday’s incident is one of several tragic shootings on college campuses this year, adding to national concerns about safety in higher education.
A Brown University junior said students barricaded themselves in a building, called 911, and waited nearly two hours for police.
“They brought us down into a basement office space with a few hundred people and have been sweeping the building getting groups of people as they call 911 and inform them of their location.”
The student said.
“We’re hearing pretty daunting numbers, and people are all checking in on their friends.”
The recent violence at Brown follows other campus shootings nationwide, highlighting the ongoing challenge to ensure student safety.
