Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty After Double Florida Murders

Florida prosecutors announced their intent to seek the death penalty against a woman accused of murdering two former romantic partners on the same day. Susan Avalon allegedly committed these acts across two different locations before being apprehended by authorities.
Police discovered David Scott suffering from a gunshot wound in Bradenton, where he identified his ex-wife as the potential shooter before succumbing to his injuries. A subsequent welfare check at the home of Timothy Flecher in Tampa revealed he had also been shot to death.
Evidence reportedly shows Avalon attempted to destroy forensic proof by bleaching the interior of her vehicle following the shootings. Witnesses also placed her vehicle near the scene of the crimes around the time the violence occurred.
The State Attorney’s Office characterized the dual homicides as premeditated and exceptionally cruel. Prosecutors believe the defendant targeted both men in a calculated sequence before returning to her current residence.
“While our case focuses on one victim here in Hillsborough County, we know this tragedy did not end with one life,” State Attorney Suzy Lopez said in a statement.
“Two families are grieving, and we are committed to seeking justice while standing with everyone impacted by this senseless violence.”
Avalon remains in custody without bail as the legal process moves toward a court appearance scheduled for July.
