Senate Democrats to force vote on codifying abortion rights [Video]

  • Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced an upcoming vote on a bill that will supposedly codify abortion protections stated in Roe v. Wade.
  • The announcement came after a leaked draft opinion revealed the Supreme Court’s plans to overturn the precedent.
  • Republicans will likely filibuster the vote, but Democrats are counting on the public’s support ahead of the midterm elections.

Following a leaked draft opinion that revealed the Supreme Court’s plans to overturn Roe v. Wade, Senate Democrats are planning to force a vote on a bill that will codify abortion protections stated in the landmark case.

The announcement was made by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) during a press conference on Thursday. He said that the vote will be a procedural one rather than a final passage of the bill.

While Republicans will most likely cause the vote to fail via filibuster, Democrats are counting on the fact that the public is on their side.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said that the issue of abortion will definitely have a major impact in the midterm elections.

Blumenthal stated, “This fight is going to be now. It will be in weeks to come when these measures are voted on the Senate floor. Every senator will be held accountable. Reproductive rights will be on the ballot this November.”

Earlier this week, Politico reported on a leaked SCOTUS draft opinion, in which Justice Samuel Alito wrote about overturning Roe v. Wade. The 1973 landmark case ruled that the right to abortion is a constitutional right anchored in the right to privacy.

The leaked opinion is only a draft and the justices still have until late June or early July to give a final decision. But if they do decide to overturn Roe, the decision on allowing legal abortion would revert to individual states — unless Congress successfully passes nationwide legislation.

With the Senate having a 50-50 makeup, however, passing such a bill is almost certainly unlikely.

Schumer called out Republicans and said, “Republican politicians across the country are passing laws telling the women of America, your body, our choice. So much for the party of limited government.”

The senator continued, “With the Republican court on the verge of tearing down five decades of precedent, Republicans suddenly don’t want to talk about their complicity in this effort. You asked them about do they support repealing Roe v. Wade? They change the subject.”

I was 19 when Roe v Wade was established. At that time I was not aware of the implications of abortion of unborn.
Now I am nearly 70. O no longer agree that the taxpayer should pay for women to use abortion as a form of birth control at taxpayer expense.
Mother’s Day is time to celebrate birth but the radical left wants to deny birth.
    God bless America

Let the states decide! This way the women affected reside closet to politicians deciding and heir vote has reset impact. Relocation provides an option as well. Many things currently codified federally need returninolg to state contrlol.

These democrats today are nothing but butchers and liars and they’re profiting off these abortions via kickbacks!
Have these people not heard about birth control? If they used birth control we wouldn’t be having this discussion right now!
As far as I’m concerned abortions are nothing short of murder, but the democrats don’t care about that as long as they get their cut!

God says ” Thou shall not kill” but those who are in favor of abortion do not believe in God. It does not matter what the so called president says nor what the demoncrats in congress say, nor what the Republicans in congress say, or what we the people say. God’s word is final. End of debate!!!!

This leaked decision was done to create 2 problems ,1 – to continue to keep this on going debate and, 2 create another division of classes. For those who have not read the opinion sending back ,States which are more lenient then Federal . As most people the guide lines will and should be abortion in first tri-semester or if in doubt take after morning pill. As for argument about other changes marriage and gender, these would also be addressed individually case by case and can be fought then

The only issue that needs to be aborted is Schumer’s brain. Schumer should be arrested for threatening Supreme Court Justices. Bolshevik Schumer, Pocahontas, and AOC should be arrested for incitement and instigating the crowds to violence. The liberal commie Democrats are a bunch of f/in hypocrites, and that’s the name of their game. it was okay to go after the president Trump for supposedly inciting the disgruntled Americans over Jan 06th.
The liberal commie Democrat politicians are doing exactly the same. They are inciting the crowds over the abortion issue. It’s okay for the abortion crowds to commit violence, they get a free pass just like Marxist BLM because they are Democrats. One can bet if the Supreme Court rules to throw Roe-Vs Wade back to the States, California and New York, will become the Abortion centers for America.
