Trump Draws Hard Line on Blue City Unrest

President Donald Trump announced that federal support for cities dealing with unrest will only be provided if local leaders directly ask for assistance. There will be no exceptions for Democrat-led cities unless a formal request is made.
Trump emphasized that attacks on federal property will not be tolerated under any circumstance. He stated that federal agencies such as ICE and Border Patrol will respond forcefully to protect federal assets if needed.
“We will, however, guard, and very powerfully so, any and all Federal Buildings that are being attacked by these highly paid Lunatics, Agitators, and Insurrectionists,” Trump wrote.
Trump commented on a recent incident in Eugene, Oregon, where protestors broke into a federal building. He made it clear such actions will not be allowed to continue unchecked.
“Last night in Eugene, Oregon, these criminals broke into a Federal Building, and did great damage, also scaring and harassing the hardworking employees. Local Police did nothing in order to stop it. We will not let that happen anymore!” he stated.
The Eugene Police Department reported that the disturbance at the Federal Building was declared a riot after protesters breached entry points and entered the building. Police said their efforts were focused on de-escalating the situation.
Trump underlined that the primary responsibility for maintaining order falls on state and local governments. He said federal help serves only as a backup, available strictly by request.
He referred to the prior year’s Los Angeles riots, noting that police credited decisive federal assistance with restoring order. “We couldn’t have done it without the help of the Federal Government,” the police chief told Trump.
Federal assistance, Trump affirmed, is conditioned on explicit requests from local leaders who must “use the word, ‘PLEASE.’” Otherwise, federal intervention will not take place.
“ICE, Border Patrol or, if necessary, our Military, will be extremely powerful and tough in the protection of our Federal Property,” Trump wrote. “We will not allow our Courthouses, Federal Buildings, or anything else under our protection, to be damaged in any way, shape, or form.”
Trump concluded by tying this stance to his presidential mandate of law and order, promising continued strong defense of federal interests. He warned Democrat-led cities not to take federal help for granted unless they are willing to ask for it directly.
