WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • President Trump’s national security adviser, Robert O’Brien, said that there would be a professional and proper transition to Biden administration.
  • The aide also acknowledged the Biden election win, despite saying that Trump still has cases filed against alleged poll irregularities.
  • O’Brien is also hoping to bring home missing journalist Austin Tice, who was last seen in Damascus before Trump leaves the White House.

While the President goes on misleadingly claiming that he won the recent election, the national security adviser of Donald Trump guaranteed during an interview on Monday that the transition to Biden administration will be conducted professionally.

Robert O’Brien, during a dialogue with the Global Security Forum, hosted partly by Qatar, talked about the transition numerous times. He also mentioned the current standardization treaties that Sudan, United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain inked with Israel as an achievement for President Trump as he moves out of the White House.

And even though O’Brien stressed that Trump still has unsettled court filings, his comments were gestured as one of the well-founded confirmations yet from a top administration official recognizing the win of Biden on the Nov. 3 elections.

He added that if the Biden-Harris race is the verified victor as dictated by the current circumstances, then the National Security Council is ready to have a peaceful, proper, and effective turn over to the president-elect’s transition team.

Since the unfavorable election outcome, Trump has frequently posted unproven assertions about the election through Twitter. The President’s claim is unfounded, and representatives from both the Republican and Democratic parties, as well as international experts, have acknowledged how the voting went smoothly.

The federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency also considers the 2020 election as the most secure in America to date.

O’Brien earlier worked as Trump’s special emissary on hostage matters before serving as the President’s fourth national security adviser. When inquired about Austin Tice, an American journalist who went missing while on assignment to the 2012 Syrian civil war,  and is assumed to be in Damascus, O’Brien said the U.S. government was working on all angles to bring him home.

He said that he and the President would be glad to see Tice safe and home before Trump’s term ends.

Syria has not confirmed having Tice. A key Lebanese security authority that stayed in Syria for two days said on Saturday that he talked with officials regarding Tice.

The security adviser also revealed his hope for Qatar Airways being allowed to fly over embargoing Arab nations in the succeeding 70 days before Trump leaves office, amidst a long-standing political disagreement. On the other hand, there are no evident signs that the pressure is easing between Bahrain and Doha, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Egypt.
