Former President Donald Trump shared his opinion on the bipartisan infrastructure negotiations on Monday, saying that Republicans are being played as “losers” by Democrats.

“Senate Republicans are being absolutely savaged by Democrats on the so-called ‘bipartisan’ infrastructure bill,” Trump’s emailed statement read.

The former president blasted Mitch McConnell, saying he “wants nothing more than to get a deal done at any cost to prove that he can work with the Radical Left Democrats. It is so important to him that he is agreeing to almost anything.”

Trump then advised, “Don’t do the infrastructure deal, wait until after we get proper election results in 2022 or otherwise, and regain a strong negotiating stance. Republicans, don’t let the Radical Left play you for weak fools and losers!”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) brought up a procedural vote that would have allowed debate on the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill. But talks have continued over the weekend after Senate Republicans defeated the move.

The senators are now on a tight schedule as they try to get the bill moving before the August recess.

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) expressed hope that it could get done by this week, telling ABC News’ “This Week” on Sunday, “We’re about 90 percent of the way there.”

There are still several roadblocks, including spending on public transit, highways, water projects, and whether to finance the infrastructure package with unspent coronavirus relief funds.

According to a report from the Associated Press, Democrats and the White House sent a “global” offer to Republicans late Sunday on the unresolved issues.

Schumer declared that he wants to pass the bill with bipartisan support this week before the recess. The $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill includes $579 billion for roads and bridges, and has a companion $3.5 trillion spending plan.

Schumer plans to pass the spending plan through reconciliation. This Senate procedure will bypass the need for Republican support by allowing Democrats to approve it by a simple majority vote.
