The Atlanta Police Department has released the bodycam and dashcam video that showed the arrest leading to the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks on Friday night.

In the footage, Officer Devin Brosnan can be seen knocking on Brooks’ car window to try to wake him up. Brooks was apparently found asleep behind the wheel of his car in the drive-thru line of a Wendy’s restaurant.

When Brosnan asks if Brooks is all right or needs medical attention, Brooks responds that he’s fine. Brooks then appears to fall asleep again. Brosnan wakes him a second time and tells him to move his car to another spot in the lot.

Officer Garrett Rolfe then arrives in the parking lot, where Brosnan tells him there was “a pretty good smell of alcoholic beverage coming out of the car.” Brosnan adds that Brooks had watery eyes, slurred his words, and appeared confused as to where he is.

The officers question Brooks, who gives conflicting answers regarding how much he had drunk, and gives a wrong address.

Several field sobriety tests were administered, with the bodycam image showing the breathalyzer registering a blood alcohol level of .108 — higher than the legal limit of .08.

Rolfe says, “I think you’ve had too much to drink to be driving,” and attempts to handcuff Brooks.

Brooks then breaks free and struggles with the two officers, knocking off the officers’ bodycams. The officers can then be heard warning, “You’re going to get Tased! Stop fighting!”

The dashcam video captured the struggle. Brooks then grabs Brosnan’s taser, runs away from the officers, and turns to them while holding the taser.

The police give chase for a few moments out of view of the dashcam. Shots were then fired, which were later confirmed to be from Rolfe’s service gun.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), which is investigating the shooting, confirmed, “During a physical struggle with officers, Brooks obtained one of the officer’s Tasers and began to flee from the scene. Officers pursued Brooks on foot and, during the chase, Brooks turned and pointed the Taser at the officer. The officer fired his weapon, striking Brooks.”

It is still unclear at what range or which body parts Brooks was shot at.

Speaking at a news conference on Saturday afternoon, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms remarked, “I do not believe that this was a justified use of deadly force.” She then called for the immediate firing of the officer who opened fire.

Rolfe has since been fired while Brosnan was placed on administrative duty. Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields then resigned on Saturday.
