GOP Rep. Cawthorn calls Ukraine President Zelensky a ‘thug’ and his government ‘evil’

GOP Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina called Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky a “thug” during a campaign event on Saturday.
In a video obtained by WRAL, the 26-year-old Cawthorn was heard saying, “Remember that Zelensky is a thug.” He added, “Remember that the Ukrainian government is incredibly corrupt and is incredibly evil and has been pushing woke ideologies.”
The Republican party supports Zelensky and the Ukrainian people as they defend their country from the Russian forces. Cawthorn’s statement echoes GOP Rep. Jim Jordan’s comments made during the first impeachment trial of then-President Donald Trump.
“We’re talking Ukraine … one of the three most corrupt countries on the planet,” Jordan said at the first hearing. “Corruption is not just prevalent in Ukraine — it’s the system!”
Trump was impeached for making attempts to blackmail the Ukrainian president shortly after he took office. Trump made a phone call to Zelensky in 2019. Democrats argued that Trump harassed Zelensky to launch an investigation into his rival, Joe Biden. The former US president had also threatened to condition U.S. military aid to Ukraine.
On Saturday, Cawthorn tweeted that Putin’s actions were “disgusting” and that he was praying for Ukrainians but that “leaders, including Zelensky, should NOT push misinformation on America.” His tweet came an hour after WRAL published the video.
A spokesperson for Cawthorn did not immediately reply to Yahoo News’ request for comment.
Former White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove says Cawthorn’s remarks were made at a town hall in Asheville, N.C., and that they “don’t reflect Republican opinion.” Rove said the event happened “last Saturday.”
A number of North Carolina Republicans, including several of Cawthorn’s GOP primary opponents, quickly condemned his remarks on Ukraine. And on Wednesday, GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy appeared to distance himself from Trump, who praised Putin as “savvy” in the lead-up to the invasion.
“I do not think anything savvy or genius about Putin. I think Putin is evil. I think he’s a dictator. I think he’s murdering people right now,” McCarthy said.
When asked if he agreed that there was no room in the Republican Party for Putin apologists, a statement made by former Vice President Mike Pence, McCarthy answered “yes.”

Correction Lorena: President Trump was impeached because biden (while he was VP) threatened billion-$ aid to Ukraine, and bragged about it as his foreign-relations experience. President Trump “conditioned” aid because the infamous Ukrainian Corruption shouldn’t be supported, while biden seemed to think “how can my smart-son profit from this corruption while I can still influence it?” Nice touch there, throwing pence and rove in as if they were Republicans instead of establishment RINOs. I hear pfizer, moderna, AND j&J are working on a TDS-vaccine for you, but neither mandatory, nor tax-funded.

Hell, that damn Zelensky could be the anti-Christ. If not obummer sure is. I agree whole heartedly with Rep. Cawthorn. Those damn RINO’s and the demonic DemonRATS will do anything to remain in control and the fake news media reports lie after lie and the DemonRAT sheeple lap it all up. Hey you idiots, the second horseman prophesied in Revelations is roaming the earth as we speak. When his tour over mankind has been completed, over 2 billion human beings on this planet will have died. I may very well be one of them. Christ my savior will come for his flock at the appointed time and we shall be delivered from this hell created by the DemonRATS and the remaining corrupted human beings. I am calling for a primary challenger to unseat Cawthorn. Zelenskky is no thug. I suppose Cawthorn thinks Putin is a knight in shinning armor with a over halo over his head. Zelenskyy has the support of at least 90% of his people, which is more than I could say for Cawthorn, Trump or lying Corrupt Quid Pro KING Joe. Neither one of these 3 could ever achieve that amount of support. AS a Vietnam Vet, I have a right to be teed off. My grandparents, long gone now came from the Ukraine. Obviously Putin is picking up, where Stalin left off. During FDR tenure a Democrat, FDR’s uncle Joe tried to starve the Ukraine out, committing genocide, During Corrupt Quid Pro’s Tenure a Democrat, Putin is bombing the Ukrainians out, the only difference is the method. Ukraine doesn’t need a no fly zone, what they need are the MiG 29’s from Poland, which the coward POTUS refuses . At least with the MIG’s they will be able to shoot the Russian A/C down. Shoot enough Russian A/C down, kill enough ground troops, they will pack up and go back to Russia. One would suspect that Corrupt Quid Pro doesn’t want the Ukraine to fight this war the way it’s supposed to be fought. Maybe corrupt Quid Pro is afraid he will have to return the 3.5 million dollar check from Putin. Remember the Democrat commercial with the lookalike of Matt Gaetz pushing Grandma in the wheelchair over the cliff. Cawthorn should be in that wheelchair, only I would take him to the Grand Canyon.
