WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Seventeen lawmakers voted against a ban on energy imports from Russia but the bill passed with 414 votes.
  • President Joe Biden announced a ban on imports of Russian oil on Tuesday.
  • Fifteen Republicans and two Democrats voted against the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act.

The House of Representatives passed a bill on Wednesday allowing a Russian oil ban. The lawmakers also approved additional sanctions against Russia for its attack on Ukraine.

The legislation received wide bipartisan support with 414 lawmakers voting in support of the bill.

Both Democratic and Republican leaders in the House supported the ban. President Joe Biden announced similar actions against Russian oil on Tuesday.

Here is the list of the 17 lawmakers, two Democrats and 15 Republicans, who voted against the oil ban.

Democrats: Cori Bush (Mo.) and Ilhan Omar (Minn.)

Omar said in an appearance on Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Tuesday that she would vote against the bill due to the impact it would have on other countries.

“That’s not only going to have a devastating impact on the people of Russia, but on Europe as well,” Omar said“When we’re having these conversations, they can’t be about just the immediate, gratifying response that we want to come up with.”

Republicans: Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Louie Gohmert (Texas), Dan Bishop (N.C.), Glenn Grothman (Wis.), Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Tom Tiffany (Wis.), Matt Gaetz (Fla.), Paul Gosar (Ariz.), Clay Higgins (La.), Scott DesJarlais (Tenn.), Madison Cawthorn (N.C.), Bill Posey (Fla.), Chip Roy (Texas), and Thomas Massie (Ky.)

Biggs said he’s in favor of the Russian oil ban, but not without a guarantee that the U.S. would work towards energy independence.

He also condemned reports that Biden is turning to Iran and Venezuela to make oil deals amid the ban.

Gohmert could have voted “yes” if the U.S. became more energy independent and Biden committed to not asking oil from dictators.

In an op-ed for The National Pulse, Gaetz said he would not vote for the bill due to the impacts it would have on Americans.

“I will not join them. Biden’s plan to replace Russian oil with Venezuelan or Iranian oil is needlessly foolish. It will make Americans poorer and less safe. My compassion for Ukrainians won’t force my hand to hurt my own people,” Gaetz wrote.

Gosar echoed Gaetz’s concerns saying the bill was not putting the needs of the American people first.

“For a year we have been living with an ‘America last administration.’ This bill is a case in point on how Americans are the last priority and the Democrats will bend over to help anyone but the voters here,” Gosar said.

Cawthorn denounced the bill as “virtue signaling” by Democrats and stated the U.S. should not depend on any country for oil.

Massie tweeted that he would not support the bill due to Biden’s lack of plans for energy production and to obtain oil from other dictatorships.

Rising gas prices have nothing to do with the war in the Ukraine. That all started with Lying Corrupt Quid Pro KING Joe wanting to kill the oil industry. Corrupt Quid Pro wants to kiss the rear of every oil producer on the planet, just as long as America doesn’t produce it’s own energy. Buying Russian oil, just finances the Russian war machine. Embargoing Russian oil only works just as long as other countries are willing to go along. American Hater Omar doesn’t want to hurt the Russian people? Omar thinks Putin cares? Does Omar care that Lying Corrupt Quid Pro is hurting the American People, by not keeping America energy independent? Of course not. All these American hating politicians (the Squad) Sanders etc. need to go. America is in one crisis after another because of Corrupt Quid Pro and the liberal commie Democrats. If voters don’t want to get rid of them, then sit back and suffer, they earned it. Cawthorn calls Zelenskyy a thug and evil? I suppose Putin is a night in shinning armor and has a halo over his head. remember that Democrat commercial, where they have a Republican pushing grandma over the cliff in a wheelchair. Cawthorn should be that person in the wheelchair. Someone should push Cawthorn in front of a cement truck. Zelenskyy has over 90% of the support of his people. That’s more than Trump or Corrupt Quid Pro will ever get. Being in NC, I would strongly suggest finding a Republican primary challenger for his seat. In fact all these Republicans should have primary challengers. Get rid of all the RINO’s The only way America is going to become energy independent, is buy the Republicans, taking over the House and Senate, overring Corrupt Quid Pro’s veto’s, Corrupt Quid pro resigning, being voted out of office, using the 25th Amendment, an act of God, being struck by Lightning, or otherwise, making ground zero the W/H.

Why does it make sense to end oil production here, and then just import oil to burn? If we had alternate forms of energy available, it would make sense to cut fossil fuel production in the US, as its use would be down, but that is not the case here. All we do is burn fuel to move oil across an ocean, and then burn that oil. We should become independent from other nations when it comes to fossil fuels, put more Americans to work, reduce transportation costs, and use the added taxes to pay for alternative energy sources. While we are at it, let’s bring manufacturing back to America. Maybe not North America, but if we move the bulk of our Chinese manufacturing sources to Central America, transporting goods would be cheaper, and most of the Central American countries are representative democracies, at least on paper, while China is anti-democratic, and prefers to rule its people completely.

What is being overlooked to a degree is the price of diesel fuel…with large trucks using getting 7 to 8 miles per gallon….this will drive the cost up of everything you buy!
While much has been said on the Keystone pipe line, that will not get it completed, while the present administration down plays its effect we could be 360 miles closer to its completion, had the administration not stopped it’s progress!
Not matter what they say…the Democrats are an enemy of oil production because they are bowing to their base for monetary support!

Keystone pipeline workers had said they were just 8 months from completion. It would have been running by the end of 2021. Now this Admin thinks it fine to buy Canadian oil and use other pipeline. But they still are looking at Venezuelan, Saudi/UAE, and Iran (with stipulation of negotiating Iran going nuclear).
This Administration needs to be removed for a multitude of reasons.

Biden is compromised by Russia and China and is just making payback for funds received.
