Hunter Biden’s Lawyers Seek Sentencing Delay Amid Campaign Chaos
Clear Facts
- Hunter Biden’s attorneys requested a delay in his sentencing for gun charges, citing the involvement of potential character witnesses in the 2024 presidential campaign and current administration.
- Hunter Biden was convicted on three felony gun charges in June and pleaded guilty to federal tax charges in California on September 5.
- Special counsel David Weiss opposes the request to delay sentencing.
Hunter Biden’s legal team has made a strategic move to delay his sentencing for gun charges, arguing that key character witnesses are currently preoccupied with significant roles in the Biden-Harris administration and the 2024 presidential campaign.
Convicted by a Delaware jury in June on three felony gun charges, Hunter Biden is facing a sentencing date of November 13. His attorneys have asked for a postponement, citing “a variety of overlapping pre-sentencing tasks that need additional time to be completed for both the Delaware and California cases.”
Hunter Biden also pleaded guilty to federal tax charges in California on September 5, with a sentencing date set for December 16.
“Several people who plan to submit letters to both Courts as part of sentencing memoranda for Mr. Biden are short of time because they are presently involved in government work and travel with the current Administration, or are involved in the 2024 presidential campaign,” his attorneys wrote.
They emphasized the need for time to incorporate these letters into pre-sentencing memoranda once received.
“Once Mr. Biden’s counsel receives those letters, which may not be feasible well in advance, counsel needs time to incorporate them into pre-sentencing memoranda,” they added.
Additionally, the attorneys noted that more time would be required if there is any “live testimony” from certain individuals during the hearing.
“Some of the possible in-person witnesses ‘ and the events that could occur right after that date,” his attorneys wrote.
Hunter Biden’s legal team also pointed to his numerous pre-trial deadlines and court appearances in various civil cases, including a lawsuit against former Trump aide Garrett Ziegler.
Special counsel David Weiss opposes the request to delay sentencing.
“There has been no lack of work to move all of Mr. Biden’s legal needs along expeditiously, and some items, like preparing and revising financial documents for the Probation Office, depended on other people providing documents and their input which was done as soon as practicable,” his attorneys wrote.
They further explained that Hunter Biden had to focus intently on his California trial until he entered his guilty plea on September 5, 2024.
This latest development adds another layer to the ongoing legal saga surrounding Hunter Biden, as his attorneys navigate the complexities of his multiple legal challenges.

That is as good excuse as any. What the hell. The election in all honesty has NOTHING to do with him any longer. Joe is out period. He has done the crimes he should do the time. Period. He is a criminal put him in jail and not some fancy place. Let him go where any other person who committed his crimes go. He is no one special as much as he seems to think he is.

Trump was refused any kind of delay on his hearings.
If they grant Hunter a delay then it’s a 2 sided justice system.
