  • Recent polls show that conservative New Yorkers trust its Governor over the President in reopening the economy.
  • Gov. Andrew Cuomo also got his highest approval rating amidst his fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in New York State.
  • President Donald Trump, on the other hand, was not trusted by the majority of New York poll respondents.

According to a survey released on Monday, Conservative New Yorkers are more confident with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, as compared to President Donald Trump to make the calls about the reopening of the state.

The Siena College Research Institute survey showed that 57 percent of New Yorkers, who are said to be conservatives, trust the Governor would make the right decisions when the state opens again.

Thirty-four percent of the respondents, however, said they trust Trump would be more fit to call the shots. Out of the respondents who are Republicans, 56 percent are for Cuomo, while 36 percent believe Trump can make better decisions.

The overall result of the poll indicates that 78 percent of New Yorkers recommend that Cuomo should be the one to choose to open the state after it has been plagued with the coronavirus outbreak.

Only 16 of the New York respondents percent thinks that Trump should make the calls.

In a press statement, Siena College researcher Steven Greenberg said the poll showed that most New York residents obviously trust its Governor more than the President in state and economy reopening by a large margin.

Experts in the legal field also had a reason to believe that, in the end, state governors have the authority to reopen their states despite Trump’s announcement earlier this month that he has the power to do so.

According to the same poll, a total of 87 percent of New Yorker residents support Cuomo’s shutting down of non-essential businesses, which includes 79 percent of conservatives and 81 percent of Republicans.

Gov. Cuomo’s restriction measures that require people to use face masks in public is supported by  92 percent of respondents, which comprises 88 percent of conservatives and 91 percent of Republicans.

The recent poll had raised the Governor’s approval to its all-time high of 77 percent, with 21 percent of survey participants disapproving.

Trump’s rating, on the other hand, was the opposite, with 66 percent not in favor of the President, and only 31 percent find him favorable.

The New York governor has become a well-known figure in the fight against coronavirus because of his daily pressers about the crisis in New York, which has turned into the focal point of the spread of infection in the U.S.

Currently, there no less than 291,996 individuals are confirmed infected with coronavirus in New York, with at least 17,303 casualties as per the health department of the state.
