Shootings in Houston, SoCal leave multiple dead after Buffalo shooting

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

• One person was killed and several others injured after a shooting occurred at the Geneva Presbyterian Church on El Toro Road in Laguna Woods, California on Sunday.
• In Houston, two people were fatally shot, and more were injured at a shooting in a crowded flea market in Houston also on Sunday.
• On Saturday, an 18-year-old fatally shot 10 people at a New York supermarket in what officials described as a racially motivated attack.

Multiple people were shot Sunday at a California church, leaving one dead and several injured. in Southern California, authorities said. The shooting occurred at around 2 p.m. local time at the Geneva Presbyterian Church on El Toro Road in Laguna Woods, sheriff’s deputies in Orange County said.

Cops arrested the shooter after churchgoers hogtied him with extension cords, the sheriff’s department said. Police obtained two handguns from the suspect that they believe he used in the shooting.

The shooter’s motive has not been determined.

Also on Sunday, two people were killed and three more were taken to a hospital with injuries after a shooting at a crowded Houston flea market, local law enforcement said.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the shooting stemmed from an altercation that involved at least two guns and five people. No “innocent bystanders” were injured, Gonzalez added.

The Sunday shootings came one day after a white teenager fatally shot 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York. Officials said the 18-year-old aimed at killing as many Black people as possible.
