WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly pushed conservative sponsors to send their money to his ‘Save America PAC’ in recent weeks, rather than to the GOP.
  • It’s now clear that Trump wants to have control over the Republican party’s finances.
  • A newspaper suggested that Trump could use the money for him and his family members as his companies are taking a hit.

Former President Donald Trump has again hinted that Republicans and donors should send their money to his own political action committee, and not to the GOP per se.

On Monday, Trump asked the conservative sponsors to “send your donation to Save America PAC,” while he tormented Republican campaign committees that typically back GOP candidates whom he dislikes.

The former president doubled-down on Tuesday, as he issued a lengthy statement to his GOP colleagues.

“I fully support the Republican Party and important GOP Committees, but I do not support RINOs and fools, and it is not their right to use my likeness or image to raise funds. So much money is being raised and completely wasted by people that do not have the GOP’s best interests in mind. If you donate to our Save America PAC at DonaldJTrump.com, you are helping the America First movement and doing it right. We will WIN, and we will WIN BIG!”

It was his way of expressing his support for the Republican party, even though the party supports failed candidates. His rhetoric has become more assertive that GOP colleagues should instead send their financial resources to him.

In recent years, there were discussions about Trump’s push to gain control over GOP’s politics. And now, the revelations also pointed that the ex-president also wishes to handle the party’s monetary.

“By urging givers to route his money through his political vehicle, the former president is attempting to monopolize the Republican Party donor base — and bend the GOP to his will by depriving it of cash,” a Politico report said about Trump’s latest scheme.

The New York Times also offered an analogy of how the Save American leadership PAC could function should he become successful in becoming the ‘treasurer’ of the Republican party.

“Mr. Trump’s actions could give him a stream of money at a time when his private company is struggling under the scrutiny of investigations, with some discussions of whether properties need to be sold. His business is now politics, and political action committees have few restrictions on how they operate and use their money, according to campaign finance experts. The former president could, in theory, pay himself and his family members salaries from the money raised there,” the newspaper wrote.

As he debunked speculations of building his own political party, it now made sense that Trump’s objective was to hold the GOP’s finances so he could govern for his own agenda.
