  • The vaccine incentive lottery program launched by West Virginia will be offering guns as prizes.
  • Among the prizes are millions in cash, hunting rifles and shotguns, hunting and fishing licenses, scholarships, getaways, and even trucks.
  • Winners will be drawn starting on Father’s Day on June 20 until Aug. 4.

West Virginia has joined the list of states offering a vaccine incentive lottery program.

The program was announced by Gov. Jim Justice (R) during a news conference on Tuesday.

Winners will be drawn starting from Father’s Day on June 20 until August 4. Prizes include cash, firearms, scholarships, and trucks.

For the first drawing on Father’s Day, the prizes will include five custom hunting rifles and five custom hunting shotguns.

Other prizes include five lifetime hunting and fishing licenses, two brand-new, custom outfitted trucks, and 25 getaways to West Virginia’s state parks.

Like in other states with a vaccine incentive lottery program, millions in cash will also be given away.

The first drawing on June 20 will see one winner of $1 million. Two eligible students aged 12 to 25 could also be the winners of a full, four-year scholarship for any institution in the state.

After that, there will be more $1 million prizes to be given away for five weeks in a row.

The grand prize winner of $1.58 million will be drawn on the last day on August 4, along with the winner of a runner-up prize of $588,000.

All residents who have gotten at least their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine will be eligible for the prizes.

Just last week, the governor urged residents to start getting the vaccine for the sake of his bulldog, Babydog.

He had said, “If you won’t do it for your family, you’ve got to get vaccinated for Babydog.”

Young adults aged 16-35 will also be eligible for a $100 gift card or a savings bond through the state government once they get vaccinated, the governor announced last week.
