In a move that raises eyebrows, Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently flew first class to attend a rally focused on combating oligarchy. The irony of the situation is hard to ignore, as AOC has positioned herself as a champion of the working class.
Ocasio-Cortez was reportedly spotted in the first-class cabin of JetBlue flight 511, traveling from JFK to Las Vegas on March 19. The cost of such a ticket can exceed $1,100. This choice of travel seems at odds with the message of the rally, which aimed to challenge the influence of wealthy elites.
During the rally in Tempe, Arizona, AOC addressed a large crowd, calling for a political overhaul. She criticized politicians who neglect the needs of everyday Americans and urged voters to replace them.
“We, as a community, must choose and vote for Democrats and elected officials who know how to stand for the working class,” she stated.
Her remarks were not limited to one party, as she emphasized the need for a Democratic Party that fights harder for the people.
The juxtaposition of her first-class flight with her rally message adds a layer of irony to her actions. While this is not the first time AOC has opted for luxury travel, it certainly highlights a disconnect between her words and actions. As she continues to advocate for the working class, perhaps it is time for her to reflect on her own choices.
